The right convertible laptop depends on whether you need a large screen that folds back, a compact everyday machine, or a tablet you can detach from its keyboard. This shortlist separates those use cases instead of treating one model as best for everyone. Check the exact generation, configuration, accessories, and local availability before buying; names and regional SKUs can vary.
Five convertible laptops to consider
These picks span two different designs: conventional laptops with 360-degree hinges and tablets with detachable keyboards. The distinction matters for lap stability, tablet comfort, and what is included in the purchase.
1. LG gram Pro 2-in-1 16 (2026): best for a large fold-back screen
RTINGS named this its best 2-in-1 among the laptops it tested in an update dated October 1, 2026. The 16-inch OLED touchscreen runs at 120Hz, and the machine is light for its size. It suits everyday work, photo editing, and occasional video projects, particularly if you want a spacious laptop that can fold into a tablet-like position.
That size is less comfortable to hold as a tablet. RTINGS also notes that demanding tasks can make it hot and reduce performance, while the keyboard requires a firm press. It is better thought of as a large laptop with a flexible hinge than a hand-held tablet. RTINGS’ 2026 2-in-1 recommendations

2. Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition 14 (2025): best compact premium convertible
RTINGS describes the 2025 Aura Edition as a more portable alternative to the LG, with a 14-inch OLED display and longer battery life, but lower CPU performance and less widespread availability. It is a conventional 360-degree convertible, so the keyboard remains attached when you fold the screen back.
Do not confuse the 2025 model with the 2026 version. WIRED’s September 2026 update describes the newer version as broadly similar but equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 355 processor. Confirm the year and processor in the specific listing rather than relying on the shared Yoga 9i name. WIRED’s 2026 2-in-1 guide
3. Microsoft Surface Pro 13 12th Edition (2026): best for tablet-first use
For reading, drawing, and handwritten notes, RTINGS recommends the smaller tablet-style Surface Pro. Its OLED configuration lasted over 11 hours in RTINGS’ light-use testing; that result applies to that configuration and test method, not every Surface setup or workload. The detachable design is easier to use as a tablet than a 16-inch convertible, but offers less screen workspace and its kickstand is less stable on a lap than a conventional laptop hinge.

4. Lenovo IdeaPad 5a 2-in-1 14 (2026): best lower-cost conventional option
RTINGS recommends this 14-inch 360-degree convertible as a lower-cost alternative to the Surface. Its keyboard stays attached, making it more stable on a lap. The basic processor configuration is intended for browsing and documents; stronger processor options are available for more demanding work.
The trade-offs include a less sturdy build and a small plastic touchpad. The standard IPS panel looks less sharp than the Surface’s display, although an optional OLED screen is available. Check the exact processor and screen configuration because the model name alone does not identify those differences. RTINGS’ 2026 2-in-1 recommendations
5. Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 360: budget pick for basic Chromebook tasks
TechRadar names the Galaxy Chromebook 2 360 as a budget 2-in-1. Its 12.4-inch touchscreen has a 2560 × 1600 resolution, but the tested configuration has 4GB of RAM and a Celeron N4500 processor, which limits intensive multitasking. In TechRadar’s video-playback test, it lasted about 6 hours and 30 minutes. That is a result from that particular test, not a general battery-life promise.

How to choose the right kind of convertible
Choose the hinge before the specifications
- Pick a 360-degree convertible if you want a conventional laptop setup and a screen that folds back for touch use. Its attached keyboard generally makes it more stable on a lap.
- Pick a detachable if tablet use is the priority. A separate kickstand and keyboard can be less steady on your lap, and the keyboard may be an additional purchase.
Match screen size to how you will use it
A 16-inch display offers more workspace, but the LG gram Pro is awkward to hold as a tablet. A 13- or 14-inch format is easier to carry or hold, while a smaller screen gives you less room for documents and creative work. For handwriting or drawing, check whether a pen is supported and included, and consider resolution and panel type—OLED versus IPS or LCD—along with refresh rate.
Match performance to your actual workload
Browsing and documents place different demands on a processor than sustained video editing or other intensive work. Check the exact CPU and memory in the configuration you are considering, rather than assuming every version of a model performs alike. Lightweight designs can heat up and slow down under sustained demanding workloads, as RTINGS notes for the LG gram Pro.
On Windows-on-ARM devices such as the Surface Pro configuration discussed above, check specialized applications, games, and peripherals individually. General Windows compatibility is not a guarantee that every tool you rely on will work as expected.
Read battery results by test method
Battery figures from different tests are not directly comparable. RTINGS reports over 11 hours for the Surface Pro OLED configuration during light use. TechRadar reports about 6 hours and 30 minutes for the Samsung Chromebook in video playback, and just over 11 hours for the Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i in web surfing; its PCMark 10 battery test for that model came in slightly under 10 hours. These figures describe different devices and methods, so use them as context rather than a single ranking.

Budget for accessories and ports
With a detachable, account for any separate keyboard and pen you need, and check generation-specific compatibility. Also review the port selection on the exact model: a limited number of ports can mean carrying adapters for displays, storage, or other equipment. TechRadar’s Yoga Slim 9i guide, for example, criticizes that model’s two USB-C ports and lack of a headphone jack.

TechRadar’s 2026 guide also names the Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i (Gen 10), with a 14-inch OLED touchscreen and an Intel Core Ultra 7 256V configuration. TechRadar reports just over 11 hours in its web-surfing test and slightly under 10 hours in PCMark 10 battery testing. It notes the limited two-USB-C port selection and the absence of a headphone jack.
This is a separate model from the Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition. The similar names do not make them interchangeable: check the full model name and generation before comparing listings. TechRadar’s 2026 2-in-1 guide
