There is no evidence-based universal top five for 2027. As of 7 October 2026, the available sources support a practical shortlist—not a measured ranking—of Airbyte, Fivetran, Informatica, Matillion, and Boomi. They cover different jobs, from loading data into analytics systems to connecting business applications, so the right choice depends first on what you need to integrate.
What counts as a data integration platform?
Data integration can mean moving data in batches to a warehouse or lake, replicating or synchronizing changes between systems, streaming events, transforming data, querying across sources without copying them, or connecting applications and services. These jobs overlap, but a tool built for one is not automatically a substitute for another.
Gartner’s 2025 Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools abstract describes a category that spans batch movement, replication and synchronization, streaming, virtualization, and advanced transformation. Gartner treats integration platform as a service (iPaaS) as a related but distinct category for connecting applications, services, and data; its March 2026 iPaaS abstract covers that separate landscape.

Five platforms to put on a shortlist
The platforms below are a cross-section of relevant candidates, not ranked winners. Gartner’s 2025 Data Integration Tools abstract analyzes 20 vendors and includes Fivetran, Informatica, Matillion, and Boomi. Its 2026 iPaaS abstract analyzes 18 vendors and includes Boomi. Those inclusions establish category relevance, not comparative superiority. Airbyte’s 2026 comparison is vendor-authored, so treat its product characterizations as Airbyte’s positioning rather than independent findings.
Airbyte: connector-led ELT and deployment choice
Airbyte’s 2026 comparison describes deployment options including cloud, hybrid, and self-managed use, and positions the product for long-tail sources and deployment control. Check current product documentation for the connectors and sync patterns your project needs; a broad connector claim does not establish support for particular objects, change handling, or refresh modes.
Fivetran: managed ELT
Airbyte’s vendor-authored comparison characterizes Fivetran as managed ELT and emphasizes reduced pipeline maintenance. That is positioning, not an independently established reliability result. Evaluate the exact source and destination coverage, operational controls, and workload-based cost for your use case.

Informatica: enterprise integration candidate
Gartner includes Informatica in its 2025 Data Integration Tools vendor set. In its 2026 iPaaS abstract, Gartner uses the name “Salesforce (Informatica).” The inclusion makes Informatica relevant to an enterprise shortlist; it does not establish a universal best choice or a particular product advantage.
Matillion: enterprise data integration candidate
Gartner includes Matillion in its 2025 Data Integration Tools vendor set, and Airbyte’s 2026 comparison includes it in a data-management comparison. The available abstracts do not provide enough product-level detail to declare it a winner or substantiate a specific capability advantage.
Boomi: application integration and iPaaS
Gartner includes Boomi in both its 2025 Data Integration Tools vendor set and its 2026 iPaaS vendor set. It is a candidate when application, service, and data connections are part of the job. Keep that use case distinct from bulk loading into an analytical warehouse when comparing products.

How to compare the platforms for your workload
Start with the work the platform must do, then test candidates against your systems, operational constraints, and budget. Do not treat tools from different categories as interchangeable just because they all move or connect data.

1. Match the integration pattern
Write down whether you need batch or bulk loading, replication or synchronization, streaming, virtualization, advanced transformation, or app-to-app workflows. Gartner’s category definitions distinguish these capabilities, and its iPaaS research addresses a separate category. A clear pattern prevents an ELT comparison from being skewed by application-integration requirements, or vice versa.
2. Verify the exact source and destination support
List the databases, SaaS applications, files, APIs, warehouses, lakes, and business systems involved. Then verify that a candidate supports the specific objects, sync mode, and change handling you need. Connector totals alone cannot answer those questions.
3. Check deployment and control requirements
Determine whether managed cloud, self-managed, or hybrid deployment is required, and identify network and data-residency constraints. Airbyte’s vendor comparison distinguishes cloud, hybrid, and self-managed deployment among tools, but confirm current availability and terms with each vendor before deciding.
4. Set freshness and operational expectations
Specify the required refresh cadence, from scheduled batch loads to continuous or near-real-time movement. Assess failure recovery, schema-change handling, monitoring, and the engineering effort your team can sustain. The reviewed public abstracts do not provide comparable service-level measurements, so validate these requirements in a workload trial or contract.
5. Decide where transformation and governance belong
Identify whether transformation, governance, and lineage must be native to the integration platform or can be handled elsewhere in your stack. Gartner’s taxonomy includes advanced transformation, but category inclusion alone does not show that products provide equivalent governance controls.

6. Compare total cost against a defined workload
Build a cost estimate around your expected sources, data volume or event count, refresh cadence, transformation needs, compute, support, and implementation. The available cost comparison is vendor-authored and notes that workload complexity, support, and pricing structure affect the result. The reviewed sources do not establish comparable universal prices, so request quotes using the same workload assumptions.

Gartner’s 8 December 2025 abstract says its Data Integration Tools research analyzes 20 vendors. That is a scope count, not a market-share statistic or a ranking of the top 20. Its abstract says: “Data integration tools remain a fundamental architectural component as organizations increasingly seek improved capabilities to support their operational, analytical and AI use cases.” The statement is attributed to Gartner’s abstract, not to an individual speaker.
Gartner’s March 2026 iPaaS abstract covers 18 vendors in a different category. Neither abstract, on its own, establishes that these five platforms are the best choices for every buyer. The 2027 title is forward-looking: the evidence available by 7 October 2026 consists of 2025 and 2026 snapshots, not a verified ranking for all of 2027.
There are no comparable published figures in the reviewed sources for price, uptime, speed, adoption, or vendor performance. Treat vendor claims as claims, and use a workload-specific trial and commercial proposal to resolve questions the public evidence does not answer.
