The best 2-in-1 laptop depends on how you plan to use it: a 360-degree convertible suits people who type on their lap, a detachable is more tablet-like in the hand, and a dual-screen model adds workspace with different portability trade-offs. There is no universal winner among current reviews. These five picks are use-case recommendations, not a single best-to-worst ranking.
What counts as a 2-in-1 laptop?
The label covers several designs that behave differently in everyday use:
- 360-degree convertible: The display folds behind the keyboard, allowing laptop, tent, stand, and tablet positions without separating the screen. This is generally the more familiar choice for typing on a lap.
- Detachable: The screen separates from its keyboard and works as a tablet. It is convenient for reading, drawing, or notes, but a kickstand-and-keyboard arrangement can be less steady on a lap than a hinged laptop.
- Dual-screen: A second display expands the workspace. It is a distinct setup, not simply another way to fold a conventional laptop, so consider how often you will use both screens and carry the system.
Before choosing, weigh your usual posture, workload and software, preferred screen size, portability, and the total price with any keyboard or pen you need.
Five 2-in-1 laptops to consider
Reviewers make different choices: RTINGS selected the LG gram Pro 2-in-1 16 (2026) as its best overall and the Surface Pro 13 12th Edition (2026) as its upper mid-range pick; Tom’s Guide chose the ASUS Zenbook Duo (2026) overall; WIRED highlights the premium Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition. The recommendations below reflect those distinct use cases rather than a universal ranking.

1. LG gram Pro 2-in-1 16 (2026): large-screen convertible
RTINGS names this its best overall 2-in-1 in its list updated October 1, 2026. Its 16-inch format is the option to consider when you value a larger workspace in a convertible. The trade-off is a less compact body than a 14-inch convertible or detachable. RTINGS describes a smaller Lenovo alternative as easier to carry and longer-lasting, but with less CPU performance. RTINGS’ 2026 2-in-1 recommendations
2. Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition: premium 14-inch convertible
WIRED’s coverage describes a conventional 360-degree design with a 14-inch OLED screen and hinge-integrated speakers. Tom’s Guide lists a 14-inch 2.8K, 120Hz OLED configuration. Verify the year and exact configuration: reviews refer to 2025 and 2026 versions and different processor variants, so those specifications should not be assumed for every retail SKU. 3. Microsoft Surface Pro 13-inch: tablet-first detachable
RTINGS selects the Surface Pro 13 12th Edition (2026) as its upper mid-range recommendation. Its detachable format is suited to readers who expect to use the screen as a tablet for reading, drawing, and notes. Check whether the keyboard and pen are included in the specific bundle; a keyboard may be an additional purchase. Also confirm compatibility with your essential applications for the exact Surface configuration before buying, rather than assuming every program will work. 4. HP OmniBook X Flip 14: everyday convertible
Tom’s Guide describes a reviewed configuration with a Core Ultra 5 226V processor, 16GB of memory, and a 512GB SSD. That makes it a candidate for everyday office work, web use, and multitasking, but performance and battery life depend on the configuration. Tom’s Guide also notes preinstalled software and a gapless keyboard that may take some getting used to. 5. ASUS Zenbook Duo (2026): dual-screen workspace
Tom’s Guide names this its overall pick. The second display may appeal if you want more screen workspace, but the layout has different practical trade-offs from a 360-degree convertible or detachable tablet. Consider your usual desk and travel setup, and whether the additional screen fits how you work. Tom’s Guide’s tested picks
How to choose the right one
Start with how you use the device
If you often type on your lap, a 360-degree hinge avoids balancing a separate kickstand setup. If tablet use is central—such as reading or handwriting—consider a detachable, while accounting for its keyboard arrangement. A dual-screen design makes sense when the second display is useful enough to justify its distinct setup.
Check the complete configuration and cost
Compare the exact retail SKU, not just the model name. Confirm processor, memory, storage, screen panel and resolution, refresh rate, and which accessories are in the box. For a detachable, include the cost of any separately sold keyboard or pen in your comparison.
Match software and workload
Choose processor, memory, graphics, and operating system around the applications you actually use. A ChromeOS-focused detachable, for example, may not install Windows desktop programs. For a Windows on Arm Surface configuration, check compatibility app by app for essential software; a general product listing is not enough to establish support for a particular program.

Balance screen space with portability
A 16-inch model provides a larger workspace, while a 14-inch convertible or detachable may be easier to carry. Check the exact device’s dimensions, weight, and ports against your bag and accessories. Battery-life comparisons are useful only when you know the test method and configuration.
