For Python, TikTokLive documents a short event-listener setup for reading a stream’s comments. For typed JavaScript, the project points to a separate connector, but the available documentation here does not establish its current imports or event signatures. Both approaches use unofficial clients of TikTok’s Webcast interface—not a public, official API for livestream events.
What “real-time TikTok LIVE data” means here
The examples below describe clients that connect to TikTok Webcast data available to a viewer and listen for events. The TikTokLive project characterizes its Python library as unofficial and reverse engineered. Its FAQ says, “TikTok does not offer a public official API for reading livestream events.” That is the project’s description, not a statement quoted from TikTok. TikTokLive project and FAQ
This matters for both reliability and expectations: a listener can receive event types exposed by the client, but it is not a stable, officially documented feed with guaranteed coverage. TikTok can change the underlying protocol or event schema.

The TikTokLive quick start installs the package, creates a client using the streamer’s unique ID, and registers an asynchronous listener. A minimal documented pattern is:
#1 Best Overall
pip install TikTokLive
from TikTokLive import TikTokLiveClient
from TikTokLive.events import CommentEvent
client = TikTokLiveClient(unique_id="@username")
@client.on(CommentEvent)
async def on_comment(event: CommentEvent):
print(f"{event.user.nickname}: {event.comment}")
client.run()
Replace @username with the streamer’s TikTok unique ID. The decorator attaches the asynchronous function to comment events; client.run() is the documented convenient entry point for a small script. The project also documents explicit listener registration and asynchronous connection methods for applications that already manage an event loop. Check the current TikTokLive README before relying on a particular package API, since it can change.
Typed JavaScript: use the connector’s current API
The TikTokLive README directs JavaScript and TypeScript users to TikTok-Live-Connector. The current import names, client constructor, and event-listener signatures are not established by the cited material here, so an executable TypeScript snippet cannot be supplied responsibly. Copying a guessed example would risk giving you code that does not match the installed connector version.
Rank #2
To build the equivalent listener, consult the connector’s own current documentation and follow its documented sequence: install the package, construct its client for the streamer, register the documented chat event handler, then connect using the documented method. Pin or record the package version used by your application, and verify the example against that version’s documentation before deployment.
Which LIVE events can these clients expose?
The TikTokLive project lists event families that include comments, gifts, likes, follows, shares, battles, polls, captions, and room or viewer-count-related events. This is a list of event types the project documents, not a promise that every event will be present in every stream or remain available. The project notes that protocol schemas can change and events may disappear from its generated schema. Consult its current event reference for the supported names and payloads.
For example, if you want to process gifts rather than comments in Python, use the current event reference to identify the gift event class and its payload fields, then register a listener using the documented pattern. Do not assume a gift’s fields—or the availability of a viewer-count event—will remain unchanged across client versions.
Unofficial Webcast clients are not TikTok webhooks
TikTok’s official developer webhook documentation describes subscribed events and includes an event create_time field. That is a separate developer surface; its existence does not show that developers can subscribe to all public LIVE comments, gifts, or viewer events. TikTok developer webhook documentation
In practical terms, choose the interface based on the data and access it actually documents. A Webcast client such as TikTokLive is an unofficial route for listening to stream events; do not treat it as equivalent to an official webhook subscription or infer broader access from the webhook documentation.

Because these clients depend on an unofficial, reverse-engineered interface, protocol and schema changes can break connections or alter event data. Validate your application against the current package documentation and handle connection errors and missing or changed fields rather than assuming a listener will run indefinitely.
