Thunderbird Desktop 149.0 added a way to export selected address-book cards, along with changes to Exchange Web Services (EWS) messages and Account Hub. Mozilla released it on March 24, 2026. It is now a historical release: Thunderbird 155.0 was released on September 1, 2026.
What changed in Thunderbird 149?
The official Thunderbird 149.0 release notes list three user-facing changes:
- Selected address-book cards can be exported. The notes establish that selected cards can be exported, but do not specify a file format or provide export steps.
- Starred EWS messages persist across devices. This change applies to messages accessed through Exchange Web Services.
- Address books are created in Account Hub. Account Hub is now the location for creating them.
Which bugs did Thunderbird 149 fix?
The release notes list fixes for these issues:
- Shift-clicking the Edit button in the drafts header view did not work.
- In Compose, plain text did not update until the Replace All dialog was closed.
- Using Repair text encoding could result in duplicate recipients and attachments.
- Link colors were difficult to read when using dark themes.
How do I export selected contacts in Thunderbird 149?
The release notes confirm that exporting selected address-book cards was added, but they do not document the procedure or identify the export format. They therefore are not enough to give reliable click-by-click instructions or tell you what file to expect. Consult Thunderbird’s documentation for the version you use rather than assuming a format or menu path.

What the Thunderbird 149 security advisory says
Mozilla rated the advisory for Thunderbird 149 as high impact. It describes, among other issues, an out-of-bounds read in IMAP parsing triggered by malformed strings from a potentially compromised mail server or connection, as well as memory-safety flaws. Mozilla says these flaws generally cannot be exploited through email because scripting is disabled when reading mail; browser or browser-like contexts may carry risk. That distinction matters: the advisory does not say that ordinary email reading alone exposes users to the same risk. See Mozilla’s Thunderbird 149 advisory and the advisory associated with Thunderbird 149.0.2.
