Polycon and Elun were two design-first Android icon-pack picks in Droid Life’s June 15, 2015 feature. Polycon leaned into compact, playful Material Design; Elun offered restrained circular icons. Both recommendations are now best treated as historical: current official listings for the original packs could not be verified, so their old prices and compatibility claims are not reliable buying guidance.
Why Droid Life recommended Polycon and Elun
Droid Life’s June 15, 2015 feature was part of its recurring “This Icon Pack is Hot” series. It was an editorial recommendation focused on appearance, not a systematic review of coverage, performance, or Android-version compatibility.
The feature also returned to Elun after Droid Life alleged that another recently covered pack had copied its icon designs and changed the colors. That is the original article’s allegation, not an independently established finding.
What made Polycon distinctive
Polycon was presented as a compact-looking, playful take on Material Design. Its palette drew on Material-style colors, and Droid Life described the result as fresh and simple enough to fit a range of home-screen themes. The pack included custom wallpapers.

The article called Polycon free and said it worked with “just about every major launcher.” Those are claims about the 2015 offering, not confirmation of present-day price or compatibility. No official current Google Play listing was found. Community discussions later reported that Polycon had disappeared from the Play Store and that development was deprecated, but neither is a first-party explanation of its status.
What made Elun distinctive
Elun took a round, flattened approach, with restrained use of neon color, shadows, and visual clutter. Droid Life described its colors as stock-like and noted alternate colors for frequently used apps such as the dialer, camera, and Hangouts. That made its appeal more classic and understated than Polycon’s Material-inspired look.

The 2015 feature listed more than 3,100 HD icons, 31 HD cloud-based wallpapers, and Muzei support. It also said Elun worked with major launchers and listed the price as $0.99. The same feature reused an earlier description that referred to more than 2,200 icons; the later 3,100-plus figure suggests the library had grown, but does not establish which app versions were being compared. None of these figures or the price should be read as current. An active official Elun listing, its present inventory, price, and launcher support could not be verified.

Can you still install either pack?
There is not enough verified information to recommend buying or installing either original pack today. Search absence does not prove permanent discontinuation—it can also reflect regional availability, a renamed listing, or indexing—but it does mean readers should not rely on the old Play links, prices, or compatibility statements. For Elun in particular, current official availability remains unverified.
Avoid APK repositories for these packs unless you can independently establish the file’s provenance, signature, licensing, and safety. An old APK may install but still lack a working dashboard, wallpaper server, or integration with a current launcher.

Understand the launcher requirement
An icon pack is not necessarily applied by installing its app. It generally needs a launcher or theme system that supports third-party icon packs. A phone’s default launcher may not offer that option, and a launcher update can change how icons are scaled, masked, or selected. The original article’s broad launcher-support language was specific to its time; it does not confirm support for current Pixel, Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, or other device software.

- Check that your launcher supports third-party icon packs, then install a compatible launcher if needed.
- Install the icon-pack app only from Google Play or the developer’s verified distribution channel.
- Open the pack’s dashboard and choose its Apply option, if available, or open your launcher’s icon or theme settings.
- Select the pack and check your home screen. If some icons are unchanged, use the pack’s icon-request feature if it has one, replace individual icons manually, or enable icon masking if your launcher offers it.
- If the pack does not appear, confirm that it and the launcher are installed under the same Android user profile, that the launcher permits third-party themes, and that the pack is still compatible and available.
These are generic instructions; the current dashboards and controls for Polycon and Elun have not been verified.

Current alternatives, matched to the design you want
These are current official Play Store options identified in the available listings, not direct replacements for the original packs. Store availability and prices can vary by region and account. Listing details below were observed on August 18, 2026.
| Pack | Why consider it | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Delta Icon Pack | Google Play describes thousands of hand-designed icons, support for more than 20 launchers, icon requests, and regular maintenance. Listed as free to install with in-app purchases; the listing showed an update on July 1, 2026. | Broad, colorful coverage rather than an exact Polycon-style Material look. |
| Simplicon | A closer conceptual match for Elun: bright, minimal circular icons. The listing shows more than 5,850 icons, over 100 wallpapers, masking, alternate icons, and a $0.99 price. | Its brighter colors may not suit someone seeking Elun’s subdued, stock-like appearance. |
| Arcticons | Free and open source, with more than 14,000 icons according to Google Play; a good choice for a minimalist line-based style. | It is not a close visual match for filled Material or circular icons. |
| Borealis | For readers prioritizing library size and features: the listing shows more than 31,000 icons, 48-plus wallpapers, masking, and icon requests. | The listing showed a $4.49 price, and its scale and colorful branding may be excessive for someone seeking a restrained refresh. |
Before choosing any pack, check whether it covers the apps you actually use, how it handles unthemed icons, whether it supports your launcher, and whether the developer is still updating it. A large icon count alone does not guarantee a cohesive home screen. Cloud wallpapers also depend on an active service, while icon-request and manual replacement features can help fill gaps.
