There are two very different kinds of flip phone: a foldable smartphone with a full touchscreen and apps, and a basic keypad phone for calls and simpler tasks. The five picks below cover both. There is no universal winner: choose by the apps you need, cover-screen usefulness, price, size, battery, software support and—especially for keypad phones—carrier compatibility. Prices and availability vary by country and change over time, so treat the cited figures as dated context rather than live offers.
Which kind of flip phone do you want?
A foldable smartphone opens to a large touchscreen and runs smartphone apps. Its outer cover screen can handle some quick tasks without opening the phone, though exactly what it can do differs by model. A keypad feature phone is a simpler device: it may suit calling, texting and a more limited set of functions, but it is not a substitute for a smartphone if you depend on apps such as mobile banking or workplace tools.
The shortlist is deliberately mixed. The first four are foldable smartphones; the fifth is a basic phone option. Check the exact regional model name, configuration, stock and price before buying.

These are guide-reported specifications and judgments, not the result of independent testing by this article.

Vodafone UK characterizes the upgrades over the Flip7 as mostly refinements and flags the Flip8’s premium price. If the newest model’s changes do not matter to you, compare local prices with the previous generation before paying more. Vodafone also reports up to 31 hours of video playback, but that figure reflects manufacturer-claim context and laboratory or typical-value conditions; actual use varies. It is not a promise of everyday battery life.
Vodafone UK’s 2026 flip-phone guide provides its regional recommendation and model details. Update duration, specifications and availability can differ by market, so check Samsung’s local listing for the exact variant before purchase.
2. Motorola Razr 2026: current foldable at a lower tier
Motorola’s US product page lists a 6.9-inch display, 4,800mAh battery, 30W charging and IP48 protection. Motorola also promotes the external display for tasks including message replies, Google Maps, music controls and apps. Those are manufacturer-listed features and specifications, not independent battery or durability test results.
TechRadar’s August 2026 review reported a starting price of $799.99 in the US and £799.99 in the UK, and availability in those two markets at review time. It did not report availability in Australia or India. Its reviewer praised the cover screen and battery, while noting a modest performance level and a visible delay when moving between screens. These dated review prices are not current quotes.
The model may be sold as Razr 70 in some regions. Confirm the year, regional name and configuration: the Razr 2026/Razr 70 is not the prior-generation Razr 2025/Razr 60. See Motorola’s US product page for manufacturer-listed features and TechRadar’s review for its review-time price, availability and assessment.
3. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE: a more compact-feeling alternative
Vodafone UK describes the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE as lightweight and affordable. Its guide lists a 6.7-inch main display, 3.4-inch cover display, Exynos 2400 processor, 4,000mAh battery, IP48 rating and 25W wired charging. The smaller outer screen is the key tradeoff if you want to handle frequent tasks without unfolding the phone; Vodafone also cautions that busy users may need to recharge during the day.

This is a sensible option to compare when you want a foldable Samsung but do not need the Flip8’s newest refinements. “Affordable” is relative, however: compare live local prices rather than assuming the FE is a bargain in every market. Specifications and the value judgment above are from Vodafone UK’s guide.
4. Motorola Razr 60 Ultra / Razr 2025: consider it on sale
A previous generation can make more sense than a new model if the discount is substantial and the compromises suit you. TechRadar reported launch prices of $699 in the US and £799 in the UK for the 2025 Razr, and said it remained compelling when discounted against newer options. Its review characterized performance as midrange and the cameras as good, but not great.
Vodafone UK lists the Razr 60 Ultra with a 7-inch main screen, 4-inch cover screen, Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, 4,700mAh battery and IP48 rating, and names it a value pick. Regional naming can be confusing: Razr 2025 and Razr 60 refer to this generation in some markets, while Razr 2026/Razr 70 is newer. Verify the exact model and compare the current price with a current-generation alternative; old launch prices do not establish today’s value. See TechRadar’s Razr 2025 review and Vodafone UK’s guide.

5. Nokia 2780 Flip: a basic-phone option for the US
If you want a keypad phone rather than an app-capable foldable, the Nokia 2780 Flip is a candidate to consider in the United States. DumbPhoneGuide’s July 2026 guide calls it its best overall dumbphone and reports GPS, hotspot capability, hearing-aid support and a removable battery, alongside US carrier support. It gives an approximate price of $90; that is a guide-reported estimate, not a current quote.
Do not assume that a phone will work simply because it has the right brand or network bands. Before buying, check the exact model number with the carrier you plan to use. DumbPhoneGuide notes Verizon certification and an AT&T VoLTE whitelist in the US, making model-specific confirmation important. Its recommendations and price are from the guide updated July 11, 2026.

How to choose the right one
If you want the latest premium smartphone foldable
Start with the Galaxy Z Flip8 if you value its stated update period and current specifications. Compare the Flip7’s local price first: Vodafone UK says the Flip8’s changes are mostly refinements, so the newer phone may not justify its premium for every buyer.
If you care most about outer-screen tasks
Compare the Razr 2026’s external-screen functions with what you actually use. Motorola lists replies, Maps, music controls and apps, while TechRadar’s reviewer found the cover screen useful but noticed a delay during screen handoff. A feature list does not guarantee identical app behavior in every region or software version.
If you want a lower-cost smartphone foldable
Compare the Flip7 FE with a discounted older Razr or Galaxy model. Consider the exact sale price alongside performance, cameras, cover-screen size and battery tradeoffs; a lower original launch price or a “value” label alone does not settle which is the better buy now.

If you want a simpler keypad phone
Write down the functions you cannot give up—such as GPS, hotspot use, hearing-aid compatibility or a removable battery—and confirm each on the precise model you can buy. Then get carrier confirmation before ordering. A basic phone can be the right choice for fewer apps, but it is unsuitable if essential services require smartphone apps.
If durability is your deciding factor
Compare the hinge and screen design, water-and-dust rating, repair terms and warranty for the exact regional model. IP48 ratings listed for several foldables are specifications, not proof that one will survive drops or years of wear better than another. No independent comparative durability testing is established by the sources cited here; treat manufacturer protection claims as claims with defined limits, not guarantees.
Quick Recap
Check before you buy
- Confirm whether the listing is for a foldable smartphone or a keypad feature phone.
- Match the full model name, year, region, storage and carrier or unlocked variant to the product you intend to buy.
- Check the current price and stock in your country; the figures above come from dated review or guide contexts.
- For foldables, consider how often you will use the cover screen, whether the camera and performance meet your needs, and how the unfolded and folded size feel.
- For keypad phones, verify required functions and get your carrier to confirm the exact model number will be accepted on its network.
- Read the local warranty, repair and software-support terms rather than treating a rating or update claim as a durability guarantee.
