Theom’s announcement named Ridge Ventures as lead investor and M12, Microsoft’s venture fund, as a participant.
The stated uses for the proceeds were to add coverage for more data-store technologies, address additional customer use cases, and expand go-to-market activity. Those were plans announced at the time, not a verified account of how the funds were ultimately spent.
What problem Theom said it was addressing
Theom’s founding thesis was that securing cloud data requires following the data and its access context, rather than treating the storage location alone as the full security picture. The product approach described at launch
At launch, Theom said its service examined access to data, including vendor access, looked for abnormal activity, and prioritized risks affecting data stores. It also described routing remediation through integrations with customers’ native SIEM and SOAR tools. These capabilities reflect Theom’s product description; the announcement does not independently establish how well they detect threats or reduce risk.

What the funding story does—and does not—establish
The 2022 announcement establishes the reported round amount, named investors, and the company’s intended uses for the funding. It also records Theom’s product thesis and its description of launch-era capabilities.
