A Knight’s Tales is a Blood and Wine side quest in Toussaint. To complete it, investigate the bleeding tree and nearby hut, follow the trail to Lynx Crag, then decide whether to accept the witch’s help, act without it, or force her cooperation. Those choices lead to different outcomes for Daphne’s spirit and Jacob.

How to start A Knight’s Tales
Find the bleeding tree near a lumberjack’s clearing in Toussaint and speak with Jacob, a woodcutter who wants Daphne freed from a curse. The quest belongs to the Blood and Wine expansion. The steps and outcomes below follow the objectives and journal summaries recorded by Games Lantern’s quest guide.

- Speak with Jacob. At the bleeding tree, hear why he wants Daphne’s curse lifted.
- Investigate the hut. Search the hut and use Witcher Senses where prompted. Find Sir Gareth’s remains as part of the investigation.
- Travel to Lynx Crag. Follow the quest marker and investigate the witch and the information needed to lift the curse.
- Choose how to proceed. The witch’s help, acting alone, and forcing her cooperation are distinct routes with different consequences. Read the choice outcomes below before committing.
- Finish the objectives for your route. Return to the bleeding tree and complete the route-specific tasks. Depending on your choice, these can include a wraith fight, confronting the witch, tracking Jacob, or carrying out a disenchanting ritual. They are not all steps in one linear sequence.
Where to find Sir Gareth’s remains
Search the hut associated with the quest and use Witcher Senses to inspect the clues that the objective highlights. The quest guide lists finding Sir Gareth’s remains as part of the investigation. A Game8 search-result summary also identifies finding Sir Gareth’s bone before returning to the cursed tree as important to its preferred outcome; that exact sequencing is not independently confirmed here, so follow your active quest objectives rather than treating it as a universal order.

Which choice should you make?
Spoilers for the quest’s outcomes. The route is a choice about the consequence Geralt accepts, not simply a difficulty setting. Games Lantern’s journal-summary account describes these outcomes:
| Approach | Outcome |
|---|---|
| Ask the witch for help and follow the tale | The witch explains how Daphne can be freed. Her spirit leaves at peace with its fate, but her life cannot be restored. |
| Try to lift the curse without the witch’s help | Geralt frees Daphne’s ghost, but it is crazed and in pain. He must defeat it. |
| Force the witch to help | The witch’s promise is a ruse. When Geralt returns, Jacob is dead; Daphne’s crazed spirit killed him and then disappears. |
If you want the peaceful release described in the quest journal, ask the witch for help and follow the tale. Acting alone leads to a fight with Daphne’s tormented spirit; forcing the witch ends with Jacob dead.

Do you need Blood and Wine?
Yes. A Knight’s Tales is a side quest in the Blood and Wine expansion, set in Toussaint. BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe’s official The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt page says the Complete Edition includes both story expansions, including Blood and Wine, and lists physical editions for multiple platforms. Availability can vary by platform and region; check the listing for your location if you need access to the expansion.
