To get through The Room: Old Sins, use the eyepiece to reveal hidden mechanisms, solve the dollhouse rooms, and revisit earlier areas when new tools unlock their puzzles. This walkthrough follows the main progression from the Attic tutorial through the Foyer, Study, and later rooms, while distinguishing story records and puzzle tools from optional collectibles. No authoritative optional-collectible total is established in the available walkthroughs.

How to use this walkthrough

The Room: Old Sins is a tactile puzzle adventure set in Waldegrave Manor. Engineer Edward Lockwood and his wife Abigail have disappeared, and the dollhouse’s rooms conceal the trail to a precious artefact. Fireproof Games describes the experience as: “Explore unsettling locations, follow obscure clues and manipulate bizarre contraptions to uncover the mysteries within Waldegrave Manor.” Fireproof Games

  • Use the eyepiece often. Open it from inventory and look through it at surfaces marked by a colored veil. Hidden symbols and mechanisms may only become visible through the lens.
  • Track items by destination. Some pieces belong in the dollhouse exterior or a room you have already visited, rather than the room where you found them.
  • Separate clues from tools. Books and journal entries provide story context; coins, crests, map pieces, and mechanical parts typically advance puzzles. The walkthroughs do not establish an exhaustive optional-collectible checklist.
  • Follow in-game hints if stuck. A missed interaction can block progress even when a puzzle appears solved.

Attic tutorial: open the dollhouse

  1. Open the briefcase latches and take the screwdriver. Inspect the notebook, photographs, clipping, and map for story details.
  2. Use the screwdriver on the floodlight latch. Slide the two circuit pieces until they connect; the light reveals the dollhouse.
  3. Find the eyepiece in the case’s hidden compartment, then open its bronze knob.
  4. Look through the eyepiece at the dollhouse entrance. Set the hallway scene with the chair fully left and its back against the wall, the picture frame at the top, and the chandelier in the middle.
  5. Use the eyepiece to break the revealed symbol and enter the Foyer.

Foyer: solve the box and obtain the swan

Find the coins and match the constellations

  1. Inspect the etiquette book to reveal Abigail’s journal entry.
  2. Open the odd box’s lower dial compartment and take the brass mechanical coin. Slide its pieces into a pinwheel shape and insert it into the matching side slot.
  3. Look through the eyepiece and rotate the constellation field until it matches the fixed yellow outline. Take the family crest and place it in the matching slot on the dollhouse exterior.
  4. Rotate the reindeer statue until its two dial arrows align. Take the silver mechanical coin, reshape it into a pinwheel, and use it in the other box slot.
  5. Match the second constellation outline to obtain the ornate metal panel. You will use it on the dollhouse exterior later.

Open the Foyer box

  1. Uncover the two yellow buttons and press them simultaneously.
  2. For the next mechanism, move the lock and turn the dial to expose matching button pairs. Press each matching pair at the same time.
  3. At the three-button stage, reposition the top and bottom locks and rotate the dial to reveal each matching pair. Press the pairs together as they appear.
  4. Take the strange artefact from the box and activate it to reveal a swan figurine. The Foyer’s black growth signals that this room’s main sequence is complete.

Dollhouse exterior: open the Study

  1. Place the swan figurine on the empty pedestal by the gate. Take the model lamp from the pedestal’s drawer and fit it to the missing dollhouse lamppost.
  2. Install the ornate metal panel in the missing balcony position at the back of the dollhouse.
  3. On the panel, match the movable gear arrows to the fixed pattern on the left. First use the four corner gears to point the middle arrow down. Then set the corners: top-left north, top-right northeast, bottom-left south, and bottom-right southeast.
  4. Use the eyepiece to break the newly revealed entrance seal and enter the Study.

Study: desk, safe, and model well

Open the roll-top desk

  1. Read Edward’s entry in the steam-engine manual.
  2. At the roll-top desk, move the circular selector through the growth sequence: seed, leaf, tree. Inspect newly exposed compartments and use the eyepiece on the revealed puzzles.
  3. Take the fire steel from the quarter-circle compartment. On the black safe, find the four-hole medallion in a small drawer.
  4. Separate the medallion pieces. Use the shaped metal piece to open the desk’s bar lock, then continue through the matching-symbol puzzles.
  5. Collect the crank handle. In its puzzle, move the red moon and blue triangle through the turning slot; account for each shape inverting as it crosses to the other side.
  6. Take the resulting model well part to the yard. It activates the next chain of mechanisms.

Expect linked-room progression

The Study’s later machinery depends on tools and actions from other rooms, including the Kitchen. The sequence is not a simple one-room-at-a-time route: revisit locations when a new handle, connector, or other miniature fixture gives an old mechanism a use. The published walkthroughs continue through the Curiosity Room, Maritime Room, Garden, Japanese Gallery, Art Studio, and a return to the Attic.

Kitchen and Study: route fire, water, steam, and electricity

  1. In the Kitchen, fit the metal handle to the cabinet and use the fire steel in the furnace mechanism.
  2. Turn the furnace crank clockwise to ignite the coal and release a valve handle. Set the valve to direct water through the pipes.
  3. Return to the Study. Close the steam outlet and position the paired handles to build pressure.
  4. Lock the horizontal pipe, route steam through the brass orb, and install the pipe connector.
  5. The steam powers the central electrical machine. Use its handles to expose another strange artefact.

Curiosity Room: globe and light-path puzzles

Route the light through the globe structures

Place each map piece into its matching globe slot. Orient the highlighted region beneath the lens, then use the eyepiece to reveal a structure where a ball of light must travel to its goal.

  • Final globe mechanism: Reposition the portal-like pieces and reflectors until the laser reaches its destination.

These later routes are diagram-led in the published walkthrough; the prose does not establish a reliable set of exact positions for every piece, so use the in-game light path and eyepiece rather than relying on guessed orientations.

Use the mask and gemstone in the room’s mechanism chain

Adjust the wooden tiki mask to mirror its metal counterpart after adding the carved wood jaw. The mechanism reveals a bracket for an Anubis mask. That mask reveals a gemstone, which opens another display-case compartment and yields an ornate iron. These are progression items, not evidence of a separate optional-collectible set.

Maritime Room, Garden, Japanese Gallery, Art Studio, and Attic

The walkthrough continues through these areas and eventually returns to the Attic. Its later room solutions rely on observing the environment, testing newly acquired pieces in the dollhouse, and carrying tools between locations. Treat room boundaries as places to search, not as a strict order: when an item has no immediate use, inspect the dollhouse exterior and revisit earlier mechanisms.

For completion tracking, keep three categories in mind: story records such as books and journal entries; puzzle progression items such as coins, map pieces, and mechanism parts; and platform achievements where the relevant store listing confirms them. The available walkthrough coverage does not verify a single exhaustive optional-collectible list, total, or missable-item claim.

Hints, rollback, and device compatibility

If a puzzle seems stuck

Fireproof’s help page recommends checking the in-game hints when progress may be blocked by a missed action. It also suggests restarting the device or app. If you suspect a progression bug, pause and tap the “Game Paused” text five times to open the hidden rollback menu, then choose the last room opened. In that menu, “Attic” refers to a room near the game’s end, not the tutorial at the beginning.

Fireproof’s help page also lists a Maritime Room Strongbox workaround: revert to Japanese Gallery and replay some progress. The support note is dated, so it does not establish that the issue remains present in current versions.
