First, identify the problem and preserve your save
Note what happened and when: whether the game closes on launch or during play, the exact login error, or the last point where your progress was visible. If progress is missing, avoid deleting the app or clearing its data until Bureau 81 advises you or you have confirmed a game-specific backup method. The official listings reviewed do not document a mobile backup, transfer ID, cloud-save feature, or recovery process.
Fix crashes or an app that will not open
Try these low-risk device checks first. They are general mobile-app troubleshooting measures published by Square Enix for its own games, not a confirmed Bureau 81 fix for The Operator.
- Close other running apps, then reopen The Operator.
- Restart your device and try launching the game again.
- Check available storage and make space if your device is nearly full.
- Confirm OS compatibility. Apple’s US App Store listing requires iOS 15.0 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 15.0 or later on iPad. Check the current store listing for requirements that may have changed.
If the crash continues, record your device model, operating-system version, the exact error text (if any), when the crash occurs, and what you did immediately before it. Send those details to Bureau 81 using the support contact below. The listing does not specify a required support form or response time.

Resolve a login problem
The official listings do not explain whether the mobile game requires a separate game account, uses a platform identity, or supports account linking. Make sure you have opened the installed The Operator app, note the exact error, and contact Bureau 81. Avoid creating, switching, or unlinking accounts as a recovery attempt without title-specific guidance.
What to do if progress appears missing
Do not assume that Google Play Games has a copy of your save. Google says only some games autosave and advises players to check whether the game uses Google Play Games and, if so, verify the account previously used. Google also says it does not manage game accounts or in-app data. The Operator’s Google Play listing does not confirm Google Play Games support, so those steps apply only if the game actually uses that service.

- Record the last point where progress was visible and any recent change, such as a device change or reinstall.
- If you are on Android and have reason to believe the game uses Google Play Games, follow Google’s instructions for finding and playing games and verify the account you used previously.
- Contact Bureau 81 before deleting the app, clearing its data, or reinstalling. Ask whether a game-specific backup or recovery method applies to your account and device.
Do not use desktop save-file instructions for the mobile game; the official mobile listings do not establish that those methods apply.

- Device model and iOS or Android version
- App version, if visible
- Exact error wording and whether the problem happens every time
- For a crash, when it occurs and what happened just before it
- For missing progress, the last point where the save was visible
This is a practical set of details to report, not a checklist the developer says is mandatory.

Store information changes and can differ by country or device. At the time of the cited listing snapshots, Apple’s US App Store listed The Operator by Bureau 81 as an Adventure game, with a try-before-you-buy flow and a full-game in-app purchase. It showed version 2.3.13 dated September 24 and a 971.3 MB download. Google Play showed an update date of September 11, 2026. Check the live listing for current details.

Apple’s listing says compatible PlayStation, Xbox, and MFi controllers are supported. A controller is an optional way to play; it is not a fix for crashes, login failures, or missing progress.
