You can open a .ccx knowledge-graph package without Chaos Cypher using the standalone Python reader described by Chaos Cypher: install its ccx-format package, import it as ccx, then call ccx.open_package() and validate the result. CCX is a draft exchange format—not yet an established standard—so check the specification revision and treat compatibility as unproven outside its single reference implementation.

What a .ccx file contains

Chaos Cypher describes CCX (“Chaos Cypher eXchange”) as a ZIP archive with a fixed member layout. Its first entry is an uncompressed mimetype file containing application/vnd.ccx+zip. The package can include metadata and an inventory, graph data, sources, and optional supporting files.

Member Purpose described by Chaos Cypher
manifest.json Package metadata and inventory.
context.jsonld Inline JSON-LD context.
knowledge.jsonld Default graph.
graphs/ Optional named graphs.
sources.jsonl Source and retrieval-chunk records, represented as one JSON object per line. Chunks can point into retained full text by character offsets.
shapes.ttl Optional shapes data.
assets/sha256/ Optional content-addressed assets.
signatures/manifest.sig Optional detached signature.

The package is intended to be self-contained for offline reading. Chaos Cypher says conformant readers reject remote HTTP(S) JSON-LD @context references anywhere in a package and load graphs with network access disabled.

How to open and validate a CCX package

The vendor’s September 18, 2026 article names the Python distribution ccx-format and the import name ccx. It describes the following basic flow:

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Install the ccx-format Python package in your Python environment.
  2. In Python, import ccx and open the file with ccx.open_package("path/to/file.ccx").
  3. Call validate() on the opened package to inspect errors, warnings, and reported conformance classes.
  4. For command-line use, the article lists ccx inspect, ccx validate, and ccx pack for inspection, validation, and package creation.

The article does not provide a full installation command or guarantee that every listed command or capability is present in every release. Check the current package and specification documentation before relying on a particular version.

Reading validation results

Validation is described as reporting conformance classes rather than a single pass/fail result: core, sources, shapes, embeddings, and signed. The classes beyond core represent independent capabilities, not increasing levels in a hierarchy. A package without optional material is not invalid merely because it lacks a class. Chaos Cypher says a typical full export validates as core, sources, and shapes.

Integrity, determinism, and package limits

According to Chaos Cypher’s September 18, 2026 description, ZIP entry timestamps are fixed at 1980-01-01 and file modes at 0644, so identical inputs produce byte-identical archives. Graph and asset entries are described as carrying both SHA-256 and SHA-512 digests, with verification requiring both to match.

The same vendor description gives reader limits of 100,000 entries per package, 512 MiB per entry, and 2 GiB total uncompressed package size. These are details of the draft and its described implementation, not evidence of third-party support; verify them against the current specification revision before treating them as normative requirements.

What travels well—and what does not

Chaos Cypher describes its own export/import behavior as preserving foreign identifiers on re-export and minting locally scoped identifiers, with imports performed as upserts by IRI. These are claims about the vendor’s implementation, not a guarantee that every CCX reader will import data the same way.

  • Workflows: the package currently carries trigger rows rather than complete workflow definitions. The importer skips that member with a warning, so workflows do not round-trip.
  • Signatures: the draft specifies signatures, but Chaos Cypher does not yet emit signed packages. Its exports therefore cannot reach the signed conformance class.
  • Embeddings: these are opt-in Parquet sidecars tied to the same embedding model; they are not a universally portable representation independent of model choice.

Is CCX a standard yet?

No. Chaos Cypher labels the material “draft 1 of a 3.0 spec” and says the specification is revised in place; readers should check the revision marker on the specification rather than assume a tool targets the latest text. The company reports one reference implementation and identifies an independent implementation as the milestone for calling CCX a shared format. Denis, Chaos Cypher’s founder, put the qualification plainly in the September 18, 2026 article: “We are not calling it a standard.” He also wrote: “A format with a single implementation is a documented format, and that is all we are claiming.”

  • Does the package carry the graph together with source and citation records you need?
  • Can the recipient process it offline without depending on remote contexts?
  • Is there a reader and validator independent of the application that created the file?
  • Are integrity checks and resource limits specified and implemented by the reader you plan to use?
  • Do the tools on both ends support the optional capabilities you rely on, such as shapes, embeddings, or signatures?
  • Have independent implementations demonstrated that they exchange the same data correctly?

For now, CCX offers a concrete portability design and a standalone reader, but its draft status and single implementation mean it should be treated as a promising vendor-defined exchange format—not as proven cross-vendor interoperability.
