There is no single best streaming service for every mystery or crime-drama fan. For a broad mix of mystery and detective series, start with Hulu or Netflix; for police procedurals and true crime, check Peacock; for British mysteries, consider BritBox; and for crime and detective programming, add Paramount+ to your shortlist. The right choice depends on the specific shows you want, your location, and the plan terms in effect when you subscribe.

Which streaming service should you check first?

What you want to watch Start by checking Why
A broad mix of mystery and detective series Hulu Its official collections cover both mystery and detective drama, with a range of examples.
Police procedurals or factual true crime Peacock It has separate official collections for crime television and true crime.
British mysteries and crime drama BritBox Its current press materials emphasize British crime and mystery programming.
General mystery browsing, including lighter whodunits Netflix Its TV Mysteries category spans several tones.
Crime and detective programming, including current originals Paramount+ Its official drama catalog and series materials feature crime-oriented programming.

These are practical starting points, not independently tested rankings. A genre page or promotional slate shows what a service is highlighting, not a permanent or exhaustive catalog.

What each service offers mystery and crime fans

Hulu: a flexible starting point for mysteries and detectives

Hulu’s Mystery TV collection displayed titles including Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue, The Sixth Commandment, and Blue Lights when reviewed on October 4, 2026. Its Detective Dramas collection also displayed Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Marple, The Rookie, and Task. That mix makes Hulu a sensible first check if you move between whodunits, detective stories, and contemporary crime drama.

Peacock: crime procedurals and true crime

Peacock’s Crime TV collection lists series including Chicago P.D., Mr. Mercedes, Law & Order, Columbo, and The Fall. Its separate True Crime collection lists factual series such as Dateline, The First 48, Snapped, Forensic Files, and Unsolved Mysteries. When reviewed on October 4, 2026, Peacock’s page displayed Select at $8.99 per month or $89.99 per year. Those are time-sensitive on-page prices, not a guaranteed quote; confirm the current price and which titles and features are included in the tier you choose.

BritBox: a focused choice for British crime and mystery

BritBox’s 2026 slate announcement describes a lineup spanning crime dramas and mysteries. Its September 2026 listings included Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence, with a September 15 premiere. These announcements make BritBox worth checking when British television is the priority. The company’s description of itself as “the premier destination for British storytelling” is promotional language, not an independent comparison.

Netflix: broad discovery across mystery styles

Netflix’s TV Mysteries category presents a range from gritty crime stories to lighter whodunits. That makes it useful for browsing across tones, but a category page does not establish that any specific title will remain available. Netflix availability can vary by country and change over time.

  • Check the specific shows first. Search the service’s current catalog for the series you intend to watch; category pages are not complete title-by-title audits.
  • Match the subgenre. Decide whether your priority is whodunits, detective drama, police procedurals, factual true crime, or British crime television.
  • Confirm local availability. Catalog rights can differ by country and change, so verify each desired title in your region.
  • Compare plan terms. Check the current monthly and annual prices, ads, playback and download features, and whether the chosen tier unlocks each title.
  • Consider how long you will subscribe. If you only want one series, compare the cost of subscribing for the time needed to watch it with any annual option before committing.
