There is no single best ScraperAPI alternative for every workload. The right choice depends on the domains you must access, whether pages need a real browser, the data format you need back, and how the service bills successful work. Compare providers with the same URLs and settings, then choose the lowest total cost that meets your success and compliance requirements.

Start with the product category

“ScraperAPI alternative” can describe three different products. Treating them as interchangeable produces misleading price and success comparisons.

Managed scraping APIs

A managed API typically combines proxy selection, JavaScript rendering, anti-bot handling, retries and, sometimes, structured extraction. You send a URL and receive HTML, rendered content or parsed fields. This is the closest like-for-like replacement for ScraperAPI.

Proxy-only services

A proxy network supplies an exit IP, but your application still has to manage browser automation, fingerprints, cookies, retries, page parsing and CAPTCHA or bot-check failures. A lower proxy price can become a higher engineering and infrastructure bill.

Hosted workflow platforms

Workflow products run actors or automation jobs in a hosted environment. They can be more flexible for multi-step extraction, queues and custom code, but their interface and billing may not resemble a simple scraping endpoint. The 2026 comparison from Bright Data places Apify in this adjacent actor/workflow category rather than treating it as a pure API.

Before comparing vendors, write down the exact domains, fields, request volume, regions, concurrency and freshness requirements. A service that works well on one protected site may fail on another.

What “best” should mean in 2026

Use a workload-specific scorecard instead of a universal ranking. Test the same URLs with equivalent settings and record the following:

  • Usable success: the response contains the required fields, not merely an HTTP 200 status.
  • Rendering: whether JavaScript, lazy-loaded images and interaction are required.
  • Unblocking: proxy rotation, browser fingerprints, session persistence and handling of bot checks.
  • Geography: country, city or ASN requirements for your target.
  • Controls: retries, concurrency limits, timeouts, custom headers, cookies and user agents.
  • Output: raw HTML, rendered HTML, screenshots, JSON fields or a complete workflow.
  • Operations: latency, support, logging, data retention and procurement requirements that are documented for your account.

Do not rank networks by advertised proxy count alone. A large network does not establish that your target pages will return usable data.

Providers in the comparison landscape

Provider or category Product shape What to verify for your workload Evidence qualification
ScraperAPI Managed scraping API Rendering mode, proxy geography, retry behavior, billing unit and structured extraction Use its current official pricing and documentation; commercial details change.
Bright Data Managed web-scraping products and proxy services Which product handles rendering and extraction, required geography, account minimums and total request cost Its 2026 comparison reports benchmark figures and competitor pricing; those claims are vendor-published.
Scrape.do Managed scraping API Target-domain success, browser requirements, concurrency and per-request or credit rules Compare its billing unit with alternatives; do not equate credits with requests without checking inclusions.
Zyte Managed scraping API and hosted crawling products Smart proxy and browser options, extraction features, data handling and support terms Check current official plan inclusions before purchasing.
Oxylabs Proxy network and Scraper API products Rendering, session controls, geographic targeting and transferred-data charges Official product pages are the authority for current features and prices.
Decodo Proxy and scraping services Whether your plan includes browser rendering, retries and the locations you need Do not compare a proxy-only plan with a managed API at headline price.
ScrapingBee Managed scraping API JavaScript rendering, premium proxies, concurrency, extraction and credit multipliers Pricing and feature limits are volatile; recheck the official page.
ZenRows Managed scraping API Anti-bot mode, browser rendering, proxy geography and how failed requests are charged Its reported benchmark figures below are secondhand in a vendor comparison.
Apify Hosted actor/workflow platform Actor runtime, storage, scheduling, custom code, concurrency and compute charges It is adjacent to, not identical with, a request/response scraping API.

How to run a fair replacement test

A useful comparison is reproducible. Create a small test set that reflects production rather than choosing easy public pages.

  1. Choose targets: include every important domain, a mix of static and JavaScript pages, and pages behind the protection level you actually encounter.
  2. Define success: specify required selectors or fields, acceptable freshness, HTTP and content checks, and whether a blocked page counts as failure.
  3. Freeze settings: use the same countries, browser requirement, timeout, concurrency and retry limit for every provider.
  4. Run enough requests: sample each domain at different times. A handful of requests cannot reveal throttling or intermittent bot checks.
  5. Record outcomes: save status, latency, response size, extracted-field validity, proxy region, retries and billed units.
  6. Calculate effective cost: divide total charges by usable records, including browser, premium-proxy, bandwidth, storage or compute multipliers.

Document the evaluator, date, domains, request volume, configuration and success definition. Without that setup, a percentage is not a transferable promise.

What the published benchmark numbers do—and do not—show

Bright Data’s 2026 comparison says a Scrape.do benchmark of 11 providers reported a 98.44% average success rate for Bright Data. The same article reports figures from Proxyway’s 2025 report, including 93.14% success and 70.39% for ZenRows. These numbers are reported by Bright Data, a market participant, and were not independently verified here. They should be treated as leads for a test, not as guarantees for your domains.

To use any benchmark responsibly, find the original publisher, confirm the test date and target domains, and check whether “success” meant a response, an unblocked page or a valid extracted record. A result measured on one set of sites does not predict your catalog, search engine, social or login-protected workload.

Compare cost using your real billing unit

Headline monthly prices are not comparable when vendors meter different things. Common units include requests, credits, successful requests, transferred gigabytes, browser minutes, actor compute or a combination.

Model a representative month

Estimate:

  • URLs requested and expected refresh frequency;
  • the percentage requiring JavaScript or premium proxies;
  • average attempts per usable record after retries;
  • bandwidth or browser time per page;
  • regional or dedicated-IP surcharges; and
  • storage, scheduling or workflow compute.

Then calculate (subscription + feature charges + overage + infrastructure) ÷ usable records. Run the model for ordinary pages and for your hardest protected domain. A provider that is cheapest for static HTML may be expensive once rendering and retries are enabled.

Recheck volatile commercial details

Official provider pricing pages accessed on 29 September 2026 are the appropriate source for current plans, but prices and inclusions can change. The ScrAPI.dev comparison states that its competitor pricing and features were checked on 10 September 2026 and warns that providers use different billing units. Verify every figure immediately before signing a contract, especially free allowances, concurrency, overage rates and minimum commitments.

Decision guide: which alternative fits?

Choose another managed API when

You want a drop-in HTTP interface, need the vendor to handle proxy rotation and browser execution, and can express your output as a page or structured fields. Shortlist two or three services and run the same-domain trial.

Choose a proxy-only service when

You already operate reliable browser automation, need fine-grained session and fingerprint control, and are prepared to own parsing, retries, observability and compliance. Include engineering and hosting costs in the comparison.

Choose a workflow platform when

Your job needs login flows, pagination, queues, scheduled actors, custom code or multi-step transformations. Confirm how runtime, storage and data transfer are billed before comparing it with per-request APIs.

Stay with ScraperAPI when

Your existing integration meets the target-domain success threshold and its complete modeled cost is competitive. Switching only makes sense when another provider improves usable-record cost, reliability, required geography, controls or operational burden.

Operational and compliance checks

  • Review each target’s terms, robots directives and applicable privacy or data-protection obligations.
  • Use the minimum data and retention period required for your purpose.
  • Protect API keys, rotate them, and keep provider credentials out of client-side code.
  • Implement exponential backoff and an idempotent queue so retries do not duplicate downstream writes.
  • Store response metadata needed to audit failures, including provider, region, timestamp and retry count.
  • Set concurrency below documented limits and increase it only after observing error rates and latency.

Or skip the browser setup

If your immediate need is a clean visual capture rather than extracted records, ScreenshotNeo is the alternative to try first: it removes consent banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and offers an MCP server for AI agents.

Use the API with one GET request:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the complete parameter list in the ScreenshotNeo documentation. The response can be PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. Options include full-page lazy-image loading, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets or a custom viewport, retina scale, PDF paper and page settings, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, selector or network-idle waits, ad/tracker/request blocking, headers, cookies, user agent, Authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, chosen-TTL caching, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, usage reporting and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work for easier migration.

Failed loads, bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts and cache hits are not billed; response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots; every feature is available on every plan. Other plans are Starter ($5/3,000), Growth ($15/15,000), Pro ($39/60,000), Scale ($99/250,000) and Business ($249/1,000,000), with two months free on yearly billing.

Create a free ScreenshotNeo account and start with 1,000 screenshots a month without a card.

Common failure modes and fixes

“Success” is high, but records are incomplete

Change the success definition to require the fields you consume. Enable browser rendering or a wait condition, and inspect the raw response before increasing volume.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

Pages work in a browser but fail through the API

Check JavaScript requirements, cookies, user-agent behavior, geographic restrictions and bot checks. Test a browser-enabled mode and a region matching your users.

Costs exceed the estimate

Inspect credit multipliers, retries, premium proxies, browser minutes and bandwidth. Recalculate cost per usable record rather than cost per request.

Latency or error rates rise at concurrency

Reduce parallelism, honor provider limits, add bounded exponential backoff and separate transient failures from permanent blocks. Compare p95 latency, not just the average.

A workflow platform is difficult to replace with an API

List every actor step—login, pagination, state, storage and post-processing. If those steps are essential, compare platforms on total runtime and maintenance rather than forcing a one-call API model.

FAQ

Is a proxy network automatically a ScraperAPI replacement?

No. A proxy network supplies connectivity; you still need browser automation, unblocking logic, retries and parsing unless those are separately provided.

How many URLs should a trial include?

Use a representative sample from every important domain and include the hardest page types. The exact number depends on volume and variability; document it so another provider can be tested identically.

Can I use a vendor’s success-rate chart as a guarantee?

No. Treat it as directional unless the original methodology, domains, date and success definition match your workload.

When should I prefer a hosted workflow platform?

Prefer one when the job requires multi-step browser actions, scheduling, queues or custom code that a request/response API would make you build and operate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the fairest way to compare ScraperAPI alternatives?

Run the same URLs with identical rendering, geography, concurrency and retry settings, then compare cost per usable extracted record.

Should I compare plans by requests per month?

Only after confirming what each request includes. Credits, successful requests, bandwidth and browser time are different billing units.

Is ScreenshotNeo a replacement for a data-extraction API?

It is a screenshot API and MCP server for clean visual captures; use a managed scraping API when you need structured records.
