RTINGS names the Apple Studio Display XDR its best monitor for Mac Studio, but it is not the right fit for every desk or budget. The choice comes down to whether you value 5K text sharpness, strong HDR, a particular port setup, high refresh rates, or a lower price. Here are the five models in RTINGS’ 2026 roundup and the trade-offs that matter when choosing one for your Mac Studio.
These are RTINGS’ recommendations, not results of independent testing by iTechGuides. Retail prices and configurations can change, so check the current listing before buying; Apple’s launch prices are not today’s street prices.
Which monitor works with your Mac Studio?
All five displays below are the models named in RTINGS’ 2026 Mac Studio roundup. The XDR is the premium 5K option; the LG also pairs 5K resolution with mini-LED, while Acer offers a 4K mini-LED display with a KVM. The Dell models reduce cost, with the S2725QC retaining 4K and the S2725DC stepping down to 1440p.

Apple lists Mac Studio (2022 and later) with Apple silicon and macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 or later. Apple also says that Mac models with M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, M2, and M3 support XDR at up to 60Hz; do not assume 120Hz without checking the compatibility information for your exact Mac and software. RTINGS’ roundup is the source for the comparative strengths and limitations in the table. It does not provide current retailer prices here, so compare the exact model and configuration at checkout rather than treating a ranking as a price comparison.
1. Apple Studio Display XDR: best premium 5K pick
RTINGS ranks the Apple Studio Display XDR as its best monitor for Mac Studio. Its appeal is the combination of a sharp 5K image, mini-LED HDR, broad color support, and Thunderbolt connectivity—not simply that it is an Apple-branded screen.
Apple’s 2026 specifications list a 27-inch 5120-by-2880 panel at 218 pixels per inch, 2,304 mini-LED dimming zones, up to 1,000 nits of SDR brightness, and up to 2,000 nits peak HDR brightness. Apple also lists 120Hz with Adaptive Sync. These are manufacturer specifications, and the refresh rate available in practice depends on the host Mac’s compatibility.

Apple specifies two Thunderbolt 5 ports and two USB-C ports. Its announcement also describes a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, P3 and Adobe RGB color gamuts, DICOM medical imaging presets, and an Adaptive Sync range of 47Hz to 120Hz. The Medical Imaging Calibrator was described at announcement as pending FDA clearance and expected soon in the United States; that statement is not confirmation of its current clearance status. See Apple’s March 3, 2026 announcement and technical specifications.
The compromises are consequential: Apple’s launch starting price was $3,299, announced March 3, 2026, and RTINGS calls the display expensive. That is a historical launch price, not a current retailer quote. RTINGS also reports some haloing around bright objects against dark scenes, a familiar limitation of local dimming.
2. LG 27GM950B-B: 5K mini-LED without Apple’s port features
Choose the LG if you want a 5K mini-LED alternative and prioritize the higher refresh and matte surface that RTINGS says handles reflections better than the Apple display. Its 5K resolution also means higher pixel density than the 4K Acer in this selection.
Rank #3
- Improved ComfortView Plus: Reduces harmful blue light emissions to ≤35%, for all-day comfort without sacrificing color accuracy.
- Refresh rate: A smooth, tear-free experience with AMD FreeSync Premium (refresh rate up to 120Hz) and an ultra-low 0.03ms response time create a captivating experience for work and play.
- Vivid colors: Immerse yourself in breathtaking 4K visuals with in-plane switching technology. Enjoy vibrant colors with 99% sRGB. The 1500:1 contrast ratio and HDR readiness deliver excellent depth and detail.
- Re-engineered sound quality: Enjoy more detailed sound with spacious audio featuring greater output power, deeper frequency response and more decibel range than the previous generation.
- Ultra-thin bezel: Designed with a sleek, modern aesthetic and an ash white finish, this display features ultra-thin bezels for a refined, minimalist design.
The trade-offs are connectivity and sustained brightness: RTINGS says the LG lacks Thunderbolt 5 and daisy chaining, and that it cannot sustain its high brightness indefinitely. If your setup depends on connecting peripherals through a Thunderbolt display chain, confirm your intended wiring before choosing it.

3. Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx: 4K mini-LED with KVM
The Acer is the practical middle ground for someone who wants 4K and mini-LED features but also needs to share peripherals between computers. RTINGS notes its built-in KVM can switch shared peripherals to another computer, which can make a Mac Studio-plus-secondary-computer desk simpler.
It does not have the same text-density advantage as the 5K LG: the 4K panel has lower pixel density. RTINGS also reports more haloing than on the 5K options and no local dimming in SDR. If crisp text or SDR desktop contrast is your priority, weigh those limits against the KVM’s convenience.

- Low blue light: The improved ComfortView Plus reduces harmful blue light emissions to ≤35%, for all-day comfort without sacrificing color accuracy.
- Easy connectivity: Keep your desk organized and clutter-free with a single USB-C cable (up to 65W power delivery).
4. Dell S2725QC: 27-inch 4K for a lower tier
The S2725QC is the straightforward choice if you want a 27-inch 4K screen without paying for the premium mini-LED features of the top picks. RTINGS reports an accurate sRGB mode and a USB hub, useful if your main work is in standard-gamut content and you want to connect accessories to the monitor.
It is not a strong HDR choice: RTINGS says it has no local dimming, low contrast, and weaker HDR performance. Choose it for 4K resolution and the sRGB mode, not to get an HDR experience comparable to the mini-LED displays.

5. Dell S2725DC: budget 1440p with USB-C
The S2725DC is the budget-oriented pick in this five-monitor group. It provides USB-C connectivity, but its 1440p resolution is a clear step down from the 4K Dell and 4K Acer, and from the 5K displays. RTINGS says text is less sharp than on the 4K choices.

RTINGS also reports that this model lacks a dedicated sRGB mode and does not support HDR. It makes the most sense when keeping cost down matters more than sharper text, HDR, or a dedicated sRGB mode.
How to choose for your setup
For crisp text and a high-density desktop
Start with the two 5K displays. The XDR’s 218 pixels per inch is specified by Apple; the LG is also a 5K choice. The 4K screens are a step down in pixel density, and the 1440p Dell is the least sharp option for text among these picks, according to RTINGS.
For HDR viewing or HDR content work
The XDR has the strongest documented HDR specification in this group, including mini-LED with 2,304 dimming zones and up to 2,000 nits peak HDR brightness. The LG and Acer are also mini-LED options, but RTINGS notes haloing on the Acer and limited sustained high brightness on the LG. The two Dell models have weaker HDR characteristics; the S2725DC has no HDR support.

The XDR’s two Thunderbolt 5 and two USB-C ports may suit a Thunderbolt-centered workspace. The LG does not offer Thunderbolt 5 or daisy chaining, according to RTINGS. The Acer’s KVM is the distinguishing feature if you need to share peripherals with another computer. The S2725QC has a USB hub; the S2725DC offers USB-C. Verify the specific ports and connection requirements for your peripherals before ordering.
For refresh rate and compatibility
The XDR supports up to 120Hz with Adaptive Sync according to Apple, but that does not guarantee every Mac Studio configuration will drive it at 120Hz. Apple lists up to 60Hz support for M1-, M2-, and M3-family Mac models in its compatibility details. RTINGS describes the LG as offering higher refresh, but the exact rate available from a particular Mac depends on the display mode and connection. Check current manufacturer compatibility information for your Mac, operating system, and desired resolution before buying.
For a reflective or bright room
The LG’s matte surface is a notable advantage if reflections are distracting; RTINGS says it handles reflections better than the Apple display. The XDR’s high brightness figures may appeal in a bright workspace, though brightness alone does not eliminate reflections. Consider your room lighting and the screen finish rather than choosing on peak brightness alone.
Quick Recap
What to check before you buy
- Confirm the exact model number and current price; no current retailer prices are established here.
- Check your Mac Studio generation, chip, macOS version, and the refresh rate supported at your chosen resolution.
- Match resolution to your priority: 5K for the highest text density in this set, 4K for a less costly sharp desktop, or 1440p for the budget option.
- Check the exact port layout and whether you need Thunderbolt 5, daisy chaining, a USB hub, or KVM switching.
- If color accuracy, HDR, or medical imaging presets are important, verify the relevant mode and current feature status against the manufacturer’s documentation.
