A trustworthy, current top 16 cannot be established from the available IMDb results: the lists surfaced use different vote thresholds and snapshots, and do not agree on every rating or position. Rather than present an unverified ranking as fact, this guide explains how to read IMDb episode rankings and what to check before treating any list as the definitive 16.

Why there is no verified top 16 in this snapshot

IMDb episode ratings can support a ranked list, but a valid ranking needs 16 episode entries captured from one consistent source, with the same inclusion rule and access date. The available results do not provide that complete set. They surface examples—including Breaking Bad episodes “Ozymandias,” “Felina,” and “Face Off,” and Game of Thrones episodes “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter”—but the lists disagree about ordering and scores. Those titles are leads to verify, not evidence for a complete ranking.

IMDb community lists show episode titles, season and episode identifiers, ratings, and vote totals. However, community lists are not an official IMDb editorial ranking, and their rules differ. One describes a 1,000-vote minimum and a custom tie-break method; another says it requires 40,000 votes and a 9.7 rating, while its displayed “Ozymandias” entry is rated 9.5. These differences make it unsafe to combine entries or carry over scores without checking the underlying episode pages.

What an IMDb episode rating tells you

An IMDb score is a user-rating measure displayed on the platform. It reflects ratings submitted by users; it is not a universal critical verdict. Vote totals and scores can change, so a ranking is best understood as a dated snapshot rather than a permanent record.

Keep the unit being ranked clear, too. IMDb’s Top 250 TV chart ranks television series, not individual episodes. A series chart cannot substantiate claims about the highest-rated episodes.

How to check an IMDb episode ranking

  1. Choose a minimum-vote threshold. A threshold changes which episodes qualify. State the rule with the list; do not treat rankings built with different cutoffs as equivalent.
  2. Use episode-level entries. Check the individual episode’s IMDb page or episode-rating results rather than relying on a series-level chart. IMDb Community forum guidance describes accessing episode ratings from a series’ ratings page, but that forum answer is interface guidance, not an official ranking methodology.
  3. Capture all 16 entries from one source. For each, record the episode title, season and episode number, displayed rating, and vote total. Do not fill missing positions by borrowing from a different community list.
  4. Record the access date and ordering rule. Ratings, vote counts, and positions can change; a date-stamped snapshot tells readers when the figures were observed. If equal scores are ordered by vote total or another rule, disclose it.
  5. Label the result accurately. Call it an IMDb user-rating snapshot with the stated threshold and date. Do not describe a community list or an outside publication’s selection as IMDb’s official all-time ranking.

Why different “best episode” lists disagree

Rankings can diverge because one list admits episodes at a lower vote count, another uses a higher cutoff, and some apply their own tie-breaking rules. The underlying scores and vote totals can also change between snapshots. An external editorial article may select episodes using a stated threshold, but that remains the publication’s selection—not a complete, official IMDb top 16. For example, TVLine’s February 23, 2026 article is framed as a 15-episode list based on IMDb users and its search result says it uses at least 10,000 reviews; that method does not establish the exact top 16.

One IMDb community list, “IMDB’s Top Rated Episodes”, presents itself as a 330-item list. Other community pages include “Highest Rated TV Episodes in IMDB” and “Highest Rated TV Episodes Of All Time.” Their presence is useful for exploring candidates, but the displayed lists and their different rules do not, by themselves, establish a single verified top 16.

What a defensible top-16 list should include

A publication-ready ranking should show, for every episode, its title, series, season and episode identifier, IMDb score, and vote count. It should also identify the minimum-vote threshold, the date checked, the source used for the entries, and any tie-breaking rule. Without those details—and a consistent current capture of all 16 rows—exact rank-and-score claims are not established.
