Tesla reintroduced a seven-seat option for the refreshed Model Y in the United States in January 2026. The option adds two seats in a compact third row and was reported at launch as a $2,500 upgrade limited to the Premium All-Wheel Drive Long Range trim. Those are launch-era details, not confirmed current prices or availability; check Tesla’s local configurator before ordering.
What the seven-seat Model Y adds
The seven-seat configuration adds two places in a third row to the refreshed, standard-wheelbase Model Y. Tesla described the cabin as having “fold-flat second-row and third-row seats,” according to Engadget’s January 13, 2026 launch report.
At launch in the US, Cars.com and Engadget reported that the option cost $2,500 and was available only with the Premium All-Wheel Drive Long Range trim. The reporting is dated; it does not establish the price, trim eligibility, or order status available in any market on October 8, 2026.

Launch coverage characterizes the third row as cramped rather than a routine adult passenger space. Engadget said the limited legroom suggested it was mainly designed for children. Cars.com also noted constraints from headroom and the seats’ proximity to the rear window, while suggesting the row could suit families with young children.

These are reported observations, not an independent fit test or a measured occupant-size limit. The available evidence does not establish adult comfort. If you are considering the option, check the fit with the people who will use it rather than assuming that seven seats means seven equally practical passenger positions.
How the seven-seat Model Y differs from the Model Y L
The seven-seat US configuration is not the China-launched Model Y L. Tesla’s Q3 2025 Update, published October 22, 2025, describes the Model Y L as a longer-wheelbase Model Y with six seats across three rows. The US launch coverage describes a seven-seat setup in the standard-wheelbase Model Y.

What launch coverage reported outside the US
On February 27, 2026, electrive.com reported that the seven-seat option had been introduced in Europe, limited to Premium Long Range AWD. It listed a €2,500 option price in Germany. That is a dated, country-specific report—not a verified current price for Germany or a price that should be assumed to apply across Europe.
