Tesla Paint Shop custom wraps are PNG images that change how your vehicle appears in the car’s on-screen avatar; they do not wrap or repaint the physical car. To use one, download the template for your exact Tesla model and variant, add your artwork, save it within Tesla’s file limits, transfer it through the Tesla app or a USB drive, then choose it in Paint Shop.
What a Tesla digital wrap changes
A Paint Shop wrap customizes the vehicle visualization shown in the car interface. It is an image texture applied to the avatar, not vinyl installed on the vehicle. Tesla introduced Paint Shop with preloaded designs and custom USB uploads in software release 2025.44.25.1; that release pointed drivers to App Launcher > Toybox > Paint Shop, or the paint/license-plate button in Controls > Software. Tesla’s release notes and owner information describe the feature.
A later 2026.26 release-note entry describes custom uploads through the Tesla app and lists worldwide availability for Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y, and Cybertruck. Availability can depend on the vehicle’s current software and configuration, so check the in-car interface and current release notes rather than assuming every vehicle has the same options. Prepare a custom wrap PNG
1. Download the right template
Start with the template for your exact vehicle model and variant. Tesla’s repository includes templates and examples for Cybertruck; Model 3 variants; Model Y variants, including Model Y L; Model S variants; and Model X (2021+). 2. Add artwork to the template
Tesla’s instructions say to fill in the template’s white areas with your design. Keep the original layout intact so Paint Shop can apply the image to the vehicle avatar correctly. Use an image editor capable of preserving the template and exporting PNG files; Tesla does not specify a particular editor.
3. Check the file requirements
- Format: PNG.
- Dimensions: 512 × 512 to 1024 × 1024 pixels.
- File size: no more than 1 MB.
- Filename: no more than 30 characters; use letters and numbers, underscores, dashes, and spaces.

Upload the PNG: app or USB

Choose the wrap in the car
- Open App Launcher > Toybox > Paint Shop.
- Open Wraps.
- Select the uploaded design to apply it to the vehicle avatar.
The Paint Shop route may also be available from the paint/license-plate button in Controls > Software, as described in Tesla’s 2025.44.25.1 release notes. Tesla software release notes

If the custom wrap does not appear
- Check the image: confirm it is a PNG within the 512 × 512 to 1024 × 1024 range and no larger than 1 MB.
- Check the name: keep the filename within 30 characters and use only the allowed letters, numbers, underscores, dashes, and spaces.
- Check the template: use the template matching the exact model and variant, and preserve its layout.
- For app upload: confirm the Tesla app is version 4.59.0 or later and use Creations > Wrap > Upload.
- For USB transfer: make sure the folder is named
Wrapsat the drive’s root, the file system is supported, and the drive does not contain map or firmware updates. - Check the car interface: look under Toybox > Paint Shop > Wraps and confirm the vehicle’s software and configuration support the feature.

Paint Shop changes the avatar’s appearance only. Tesla’s separate Vinyl Wrap service covers the actual vehicle with material installed at participating service centers. Tesla currently lists that service for Model 3 and Model Y vehicles produced in 2023 or later, and for Cybertruck. Tesla says installation may take three to four business days from vehicle drop-off and describes a 12-month warranty for issues with Tesla’s installation, subject to its warranty terms.
