TEAMGROUP announced the T-FORCE Z54E on 17 October 2025 with a Phison E28 controller and a manufacturer-rated sequential read speed of up to 14,900 MB/s on its 2TB and 4TB models. That is a published specification, not an independent benchmark. The drive uses a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface and NVMe 2.0; its announced figures do not establish how it performs in sustained writes, random workloads, or real systems.
What TEAMGROUP announced about the Z54E
The Z54E is a high-end M.2 PCIe 5.0 SSD built around Phison’s E28 controller. TEAMGROUP specifies the controller’s manufacturing process as TSMC 6nm and lists the drive as PCIe Gen5 x4 with NVMe 2.0. Phison separately described the E28 as a PCIe Gen5 x4, NVMe 2.0 controller in its CES 2026 materials; that controller-level description does not amount to a test of this particular SSD. TEAMGROUP’s announcement and Phison’s CES 2026 release provide those details.
Published speed by capacity
TEAMGROUP lists 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities. Its announcement specifies up to 14,900 MB/s sequential reads and 14,000 MB/s sequential writes for the 2TB and 4TB versions. Tom’s Hardware reported a 13,700 MB/s maximum sequential write for the 1TB model, along with endurance ratings for all three capacities. These are reported specification figures, not independent test results.
| Capacity | Maximum sequential read | Maximum sequential write | Endurance rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1TB | 14,900 MB/s (Tom’s Hardware report) | 13,700 MB/s (Tom’s Hardware report) | 600 TBW (Tom’s Hardware report) |
| 2TB | 14,900 MB/s (TEAMGROUP specification) | 14,000 MB/s (TEAMGROUP specification) | 1,200 TBW (Tom’s Hardware report) |
| 4TB | 14,900 MB/s (TEAMGROUP specification) | 14,000 MB/s (TEAMGROUP specification) | 2,400 TBW (Tom’s Hardware report) |
The 1TB speed and all three TBW figures come from Zhiye Liu’s 18 October 2025 Tom’s Hardware report, which tabulated the drive’s specifications. TEAMGROUP’s announcement itself only names the top read and write speeds for the 2TB and 4TB capacities. TBW means terabytes written, a rated endurance quantity; it is not a promise that every drive will fail at that exact point or a measure of application speed.

TEAMGROUP notes that the listed capacity uses decimal units and that formatting and system functions reserve some space. Usable capacity as shown by an operating system will therefore be lower than the labeled TB figure.
What 14,900 MB/s does—and does not—tell you
Sequential read and write figures describe large, continuous transfers under specified conditions. They can help indicate peak throughput, but do not by themselves predict everyday responsiveness, game load times, small-file performance, or how quickly a drive writes once its cache is exhausted. TEAMGROUP’s announcement gives no random IOPS figures, cache capacity, independent thermal measurements, or sustained-write results, so those behaviors cannot be inferred from the headline speed.
Phison’s January 2026 CES material gives controller-level maximums of up to 14.9 GB/s sequential reads and 14 GB/s sequential writes for the E28. Those broadly correspond to TEAMGROUP’s Z54E specifications, but Phison’s controller statement is not an independent Z54E benchmark. Phison’s release is the source for those controller-level figures.

NAND, DRAM, and cooling
TEAMGROUP says the drive uses high-density 3D TLC NAND and onboard DRAM cache. The company’s announcement does not identify the NAND supplier or state the cache capacity. It also provides no independent data on temperatures or thermal throttling.
The Z54E includes TEAMGROUP’s thin graphene heatsink. The company says it can be paired with a motherboard heatsink or an optional TEAMGROUP liquid or active cooler. Before choosing a cooling setup, check the specific motherboard’s M.2 slot layout, heatsink clearance, and installation guidance: the announcement does not establish fit for every board or cooler combination. The TEAMGROUP product page covers its listed 4TB model.
Price and availability
TEAMGROUP’s 17 October 2025 announcement did not give a retail price or confirmed sales date, instead directing readers to future company updates. Tom’s Hardware also reported both details undisclosed on 18 October 2025. Current price, stock, and launch status in a particular market are not established here, so verify them with a retailer or TEAMGROUP before making a purchase decision. TEAMGROUP’s announcement is the source for its launch information.

How to assess the Z54E against another PCIe 5.0 SSD
The headline sequential numbers alone are not enough to rank this drive against competitors. For a useful comparison, check matching capacities and look for independent results under comparable test conditions. In particular, compare:
