Salesforce also unveiled a free, persistent Developer Edition with Agentforce and Data Cloud enabled, along with Agentforce DX tools for source-controlled development and AgentExchange for partner-built actions.
What Salesforce announced at TDX 2025
Salesforce announced Agentforce 2dx on March 5–6, 2025. The company describes it as the newest version of Agentforce and a digital-labor platform for bringing trusted autonomous agents into the flow of work (Salesforce press release, March 6, 2025).
Agentforce 2dx moves beyond reactive chat
Earlier agent experiences commonly waited for a user to ask a question or start a conversation. Agentforce 2dx adds a proactive operating model: an agent can respond to a business event, a Flow, a workflow or another system trigger, then work with enterprise data, business logic and user interfaces in the background.
That does not mean every agent runs without controls. Organizations still define the agent’s instructions, permitted actions, data access and escalation behavior. The important change is the trigger model: a customer update, case change or process event can start work without a person opening a chat window.

How agents are built and invoked
Low-code Agent Builder and AI Assist
Agent Builder remains the low-code entry point. Salesforce’s AI Assist can help create or customize an agent from natural-language guidance, after which a developer or administrator can review its topics, instructions and actions. This approach is suited to teams that want to configure an agent inside Salesforce rather than maintain a full software project.
Flow, Apex and APIs
Agentforce agents can be invoked through Salesforce Flow, Apex and APIs. The Agent API supports programmatic, headless interactions, so an application or backend service can use an agent without presenting the standard conversational interface. Flow is the visual orchestration option; Apex is appropriate when execution needs custom Salesforce code; APIs are useful when an external application owns the user experience or event pipeline.
- Flow: connect an agent to declarative Salesforce automation and business events.
- Apex: add custom server-side logic and integrations.
- Agent API: call an agent programmatically or headlessly from another system.
What Agentforce DX adds for pro-code teams
Agentforce DX is Salesforce’s pro-code workflow for Agentforce. Announced as generally available on May 21, 2025, it brings Salesforce CLI and VS Code or Code Builder workflows to agent development (Salesforce Developers, May 21, 2025).

- Store agent metadata in source control alongside application code.
- Create, configure and deploy agents through CLI-based development workflows.
- Use VS Code or Code Builder for editing and project management.
- Create test cases and preview agent behavior before release.
The practical distinction is governance and repeatability. Agent Builder is optimized for configuration in the Salesforce interface; Agentforce DX lets a development team review changes, use branches and automate deployment through its existing Salesforce development process.
Testing, tracing and supervision
Testing Center
Salesforce announced enhancements to Testing Center for creating and running agent test cases. Teams can use repeatable scenarios to check whether an agent selects the intended topic or action and produces an acceptable result before changes reach users.
DX Inspector and Interaction Explorer
DX Inspector provides metadata inspection for the agent configuration. Interaction Explorer helps trace interactions and analyze execution and performance details. Together, these tools are intended to make failures diagnosable rather than leaving developers with only a transcript of the final response (Salesforce, 2025).

These are observability and quality tools, not an independent performance benchmark. Salesforce’s announcement does not establish response-time, accuracy or cost results across production workloads.
Richer channels and analytics context
Agentforce Surfaces and Cards
Agentforce Surfaces and Cards support channel-specific responses and richer interface components. They can work with Lightning web components, allowing an agent’s output to appear as more than plain text—for example, as an embedded Salesforce interface element appropriate to the user’s channel.
Tableau Semantics
Tableau Semantics supplies business context for analytics scenarios. The goal is to give an agent or analytics experience consistent definitions for measures and business terms instead of relying only on unstructured prompts or raw field names.

Salesforce Developer Edition: what is included
The new Salesforce Developer Edition is a free, full-featured environment for experimenting with AI agents and harmonizing data. Agentforce and Data Cloud are enabled in the dedicated org (Salesforce Developers, 2025).
- Agentforce: build and test agents in the org.
- Data Cloud: explore data harmonization and use unified data in agent scenarios.
- Persistence: Salesforce says the dedicated environment does not expire as long as it remains in use.
- Release-era limits: the March 2025 announcement listed 10 GB of Data Cloud access and 150 LLM generations per hour. These figures were published for that release and should be checked against current Salesforce limits before planning a project.
This edition is for development and experimentation, not evidence of production capacity or a guarantee of the limits that apply to a later release.
Scratch orgs are still useful
Scratch orgs also support Agentforce and Prompt Builder. They are disposable environments, so a team can create a clean org for a branch or test run, validate metadata and automation, then delete it without affecting the persistent Developer Edition.

AgentExchange extends Agentforce with partner components
AgentExchange is Salesforce’s marketplace and community for Agentforce extensions. Salesforce said the launch included more than 200 initial partners and hundreds of ready-made actions (Salesforce, 2025).
Its role is best understood as an extension layer: a team can combine Salesforce-native topics and actions with partner-built actions or templates rather than implementing every integration itself. Review each listing’s permissions, data handling, support status and current Salesforce terms before using it in a production process. The launch information does not establish affiliate commissions or referral terms for publishers.

What TDX 2025 does not establish
- There is no independent benchmark in the announced material proving a specific accuracy, latency or cost advantage for Agentforce 2dx.
- The announcements do not provide a complete, current paid-edition pricing table.
- Developer Edition limits can change; the 10 GB Data Cloud and 150 LLM generations per hour figures are release-era values from March 2025.
- Agentforce names, limits and availability may change in later releases, so verify current Salesforce release notes before committing an implementation.
Bottom line for developers
TDX 2025’s main change is operational: Agentforce 2dx lets Salesforce agents participate in event-driven work, not just answer a person in a chat. Agentforce DX supplies the source-controlled pro-code path, while the new Developer Edition gives developers a free place to try Agentforce and Data Cloud. AgentExchange adds partner actions, and Testing Center, DX Inspector and Interaction Explorer address the testing and supervision needed to move from a demo toward a governed deployment.
