The report calls the launch imminent, but does not give a date: TCL had not confirmed Australian models, prices or retailer listings, and discussions about retail ranging were still under way.
What is known about TCL’s Australian relaunch?
ChannelNews reported that Bonnici is leading TCL’s Australian mobile operation. In a LinkedIn post, Bonnici said that during his first 30 days at TCL Australia & New Zealand he had met carrier and retail partners, and described mobile and tablets as growth opportunities for the company.
The operation has moved from Sydney to Melbourne, where TCL’s Australian head office is based, according to ChannelNews. The report says TCL was still discussing retailer ranging. It names JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman as potential targets, not as retailers with confirmed TCL phone listings. ChannelNews’ 2 October 2026 report is the source for the relaunch plan and these Australian business details.
When will TCL phones go on sale in Australia?
No firm Australian launch date is established in the available reporting. “Imminent” is ChannelNews’ description of the plan, not a published release date or confirmation that phones are already available to buy. The report also does not confirm local prices, retailer listings or warranty terms.

Which TCL phones could be part of the relaunch?
The P80 family is a possible reference point, not a confirmed Australian range. TCL’s official IFA 2026 showcase lists the P80 Ultra, P80 Pro and P80. ChannelNews says TCL had not named which models would be sold locally, so none of those global models should be treated as an Australian SKU until TCL confirms it.
P80 Ultra and P80 Pro
ChannelNews reported that the P80 Ultra and P80 Pro were the first TCL phones to combine NXTPAPER with AMOLED. For the P80 Ultra, it relayed TCL’s IFA announcement of a 6.83-inch, 120Hz NXTPAPER AMOLED display, a 5,800mAh battery, a 50MP main camera, a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto camera and an ultrawide camera. TCL’s official P80 Ultra page also lists a 5,800mAh battery. These are global product details; Australian specifications, price and availability are unconfirmed.

P80
The standard P80 is distinct from the Ultra: ChannelNews says it has an AMOLED display but not NXTPAPER. It should not be assumed to offer the Ultra’s display configuration or cameras.
NXTPAPER 70 Pro
ChannelNews also mentions a 2026 NXTPAPER 70 Pro with a 6.9-inch NXTPAPER 4.0 screen and a physical switch for reading modes. It is a separate handset, and the report does not say it will be included in Australia’s relaunch.

What does NXTPAPER do?
NXTPAPER is TCL’s display approach for a more reading-oriented, low-glare presentation. ChannelNews describes treated screens intended to reduce glare and reflections, with display controls and reading modes. Unlike E Ink, NXTPAPER is used on a colour phone screen intended to retain conventional video and photo use while offering a paper-like reading presentation.
TCL presents the technology as designed for eye comfort. That is a vendor claim, not evidence here of an independently established medical benefit or a guarantee that a user’s eye fatigue will be reduced.

What will determine whether the relaunch succeeds?
The report identifies Samsung, Motorola, Oppo, Honor and Nothing as competitors. TCL’s immediate practical challenge is not just announcing a handset range: it needs products that stand out and distribution through retailers or carriers. Bonnici’s reported partner meetings indicate those conversations are happening, but they do not establish that any retailer or carrier has agreed to stock the phones.
The available sources provide no original Australian market-share figures or independent sales forecast for TCL’s return. It is therefore too early to claim that the company has regained market share or built sales momentum.

What to check before buying
Once Australian models are officially announced, compare the confirmed local specifications rather than relying on global product pages. The most useful checks are:
Quick Recap
- Display: whether the local model has NXTPAPER or standard AMOLED, plus its screen size and refresh rate.
- Battery and cameras: confirm the capacity and camera layout, including whether a telephoto lens offers optical zoom.
- Price and support: look for Australian pricing, warranty coverage and local support details.
- Availability: verify an actual Australian retailer or carrier listing; a mention as a target is not a listing.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
