In March 2011, Synopsys integrated MunEDA’s WiCkeD circuit-optimization tools with its HSPICE, CustomSim, and Galaxy Custom Designer environments. WiCkeD was MunEDA software for analyzing, modeling, optimizing, and verifying analog and mixed-signal circuits and IP—not a consumer product or a Synopsys-owned tool suite.
What is MunEDA WiCkeD?
WiCkeD is a suite of electronic design automation (EDA) tools from MunEDA for analog and mixed-signal circuit and IP design. Its functions covered circuit analysis, sizing, optimization, modeling, and verification. The aim was to help engineers improve circuit performance and robustness and address yield-related design challenges.

EE Times reported on March 25, 2011, that the suite was integrated into Synopsys design and simulation workflows. The announcement concerned software integration—not an acquisition or a change in WiCkeD’s vendor.
How did WiCkeD work with Synopsys tools?
Synopsys’ Galaxy Custom Designer provided the custom-design environment, while HSPICE and CustomSim served as simulation interfaces. MunEDA’s datasheet described WiCkeD as “seamlessly integrated into Synopsys Custom Designer” with a “tight interface” to HSPICE. The integration was intended to let engineers use WiCkeD functions within Synopsys-based design and simulation workflows.

#1 Best Overall
The datasheet describes a flow that can analyze a circuit, optimize it, and automatically back-annotate results to a netlist or schematic so work can continue in Synopsys layout tools. It lists topology analysis, constraint setup and management, performance and sensitivity analysis, correlation analysis, optimization, modeling, and verification.
What design tasks did WiCkeD support?
Analysis and optimization
WiCkeD supported interactive manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic approaches to improving IC functionality, performance, robustness, and yield, according to EE Times. Engineers could analyze circuit performance and sensitivity, manage constraints, and optimize a design against its requirements.
Variation, reliability, and yield
MunEDA materials connect the suite with variation-aware analysis, reliability work, and parametric yield optimization. These capabilities address the effects of process variation on circuit behavior; the sources establish the types of work supported, but do not provide a standardized percentage improvement in yield or design time.
Migration and porting
WiCkeD was also used for circuit and IP migration between process nodes. MunEDA’s customer-reference material gives examples including low-power amplifier and ADC-buffer porting from 10nm to 5nm, high-speed clock-generator porting from 16nm to 7nm, DDRx schematic porting from 28nm to 14nm, and low-power bandgap-reference migration from 40nm to 28nm. These are vendor-published examples, not independently audited benchmarks.

What customer evidence was reported?
In 2011, Design-Reuse reported that Toshiba selected WiCkeD as an integral part of its custom IC design flow. The listed uses included schematic porting, nominal circuit analysis and optimization, variation-aware design analysis, parametric yield optimization, and circuit-model generation.
“Using WiCkeD on different projects, we achieved speed-ups in our circuit analysis, porting and sizing process, reducing the sizing time and effort to deliver quality products for 40nm and below in time.”

The statement was attributed to Yukihiro Urakawa, then Senior Manager in the Logic LSI Design Department, Logic LSI Division of Toshiba’s Semiconductor Company. It describes Toshiba’s experience; it does not establish a general performance figure for all users.

No. WiCkeD was MunEDA’s suite, integrated with Synopsys products. The 2011 reports and datasheet establish that historical integration, but do not establish current licensing, product packaging, availability, or support arrangements. For present-day status, check directly with MunEDA or Synopsys.

What the 2011 announcement does—and does not—establish
- Established: WiCkeD was integrated with Synopsys HSPICE, CustomSim, and Galaxy Custom Designer workflows for analog and mixed-signal design tasks.
- Not established: a Synopsys-wide deployment count, revenue impact, independently verified ROI, or a standardized improvement percentage.
- Not established: a current head-to-head benchmark against competing EDA suites or the present-day terms under which WiCkeD is licensed and supported.
