Which Swimline float is listed for babies?
A Target Plus partner listing hosted by Target names the product “Swimline 52" Inflatable Children's 1-Person Swimming Pool Baby Seat Float – Yellow.” The retailer describes a bright-yellow buoy-style seat with a backrest and a center leg or foot opening. It also lists multiple air chambers and an included patch kit. View the Target listing.
The listing gives a recommended age range of 1–3 years, a maximum weight of 35 lb, and approximate inflated dimensions of 8 inches high by 22 inches wide by 22 inches deep. It says an air pump is required but not included. Because the listing says its product details came from a marketplace partner and may be incomplete or inaccurate, use those specifications as a starting point—not a substitute for the label and instructions supplied with the exact float.
What the product listing does—and does not—establish
The retailer explicitly states that the float “is not a lifesaving device” and instructs adults to keep children in sight and within quick, easy reach. The listing supplies basic intended-use and product details; it is not a comparative safety test or a Swimline-issued baby-float manual. No product-specific testing or incident analysis for this model was identified.

Swimline’s general FAQ says inflatable capacity varies by product and directs customers to follow the age and use guidance on packaging. It does not provide a baby-float safety rating or validation, so its general guidance should not be read as certification of this seat. Read Swimline’s FAQ.
How to think about safety around a baby pool float
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says inflatable swimming aids do not replace approved life jackets. Its drowning-prevention guidance calls for “touch supervision”: an adult close enough to keep a hand on a baby or young child whenever the child is in or near water. The AAP article focuses on neck floats, describing risks such as a child slipping through the ring, submersion, airway positioning, and strain around the neck and developing spine. Those mechanisms concern neck floats; they should not be assumed to describe this Swimline seat-style buoy. The available information does not establish how this specific Swimline model performs in use.
The same AAP article reports that CPSC received 115 reports of incidents involving neck floats from January 2019 through January 2024, including two infant deaths and two injuries requiring hospitalization. These are figures reported by the AAP in its 2026 article about neck floats generally—not reports about this Swimline float.

What the CPSC warning covers
On April 2, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned about specifically named “Relaxing Baby” swim floats, saying they can flip or submerge their occupants and reporting a drowning death involving a two-year-old. The agency urged consumers to stop using and dispose of those named floats. That warning does not identify the Swimline product discussed here, and it should not be generalized to it. What to check before considering the listed float
- Confirm the exact product and label: Check the manufacturer, model, age guidance, weight limit, warnings, and instructions on the package for the item in hand. The online listing is partner-supplied.
- Check fit and condition: Use the float only as directed, and do not use it if it is damaged or cannot be inflated as instructed. The listing says a pump is required and a patch kit is included; follow the actual package directions.
