If a StreamYard broadcast to YouTube stays on “preparing,” first verify that StreamYard is connected to the intended YouTube channel and has the permissions it needs. Then check whether YouTube live streaming is enabled and work through StreamYard’s general browser, device, and network checks. StreamYard’s Help Center pages reviewed on October 3, 2026 do not document this exact “preparing” status, so these steps are sensible checks—not a confirmed fix for that specific message.
First identify where “preparing” appears
Before changing settings, note whether the status appears in StreamYard or YouTube, whether you scheduled the broadcast in StreamYard or created it on YouTube, which channel is selected, and whether the same problem happens on another attempt. This information helps distinguish a destination or authorization problem from a browser or connection issue; it does not by itself diagnose the cause.
Also note the approximate time of the failure and any accompanying error text. StreamYard’s general YouTube guidance discusses connection and start errors, but does not define what “preparing” means in this exact situation or identify a dedicated remedy.
Confirm the YouTube channel and authorization
- Check the selected Google account and channel. In StreamYard, confirm that the connected account and selected destination are the YouTube channel you intend to use. A Google account can have access to more than one channel.
- Check the channel role. StreamYard says the connected user must own the channel or be a manager or owner of a Brand Account. Its guidance says YouTube Studio/Channel Permissions currently support live streaming only for the owner. If you use channel permissions, check that the signed-in account is the owner.
- Check Google authorization. Make sure the authorization granted to StreamYard includes “Manage your YouTube account.” If you are unsure, review the connection and reconnect the correct channel with the required permission.
These account and permission checks come from StreamYard’s “Connect a YouTube Channel” guidance. They are relevant when the destination cannot be accessed, but the available help pages do not establish that missing permission is the cause of every “preparing” status.

Check whether YouTube live streaming is enabled
If live streaming was only just enabled for the channel, StreamYard says to allow up to 24 hours for it to become available. Once that period has passed, confirm again that StreamYard is connected to the correct channel.
If YouTube shows a restriction or eligibility message, check the channel’s YouTube dashboard for its specific status. StreamYard’s general error guidance notes that a restriction message can be associated with a Community Guidelines violation; do not assume that applies unless YouTube actually reports a restriction.

Try StreamYard’s general browser, device, and network checks
StreamYard lists the following steps for a generic YouTube connection or start error. Its help page does not say these are guaranteed fixes for the exact “preparing” state. Try one change at a time and attempt the broadcast again after each step so you can tell whether anything changed.
- Refresh the StreamYard page and confirm that other websites load.
- Close and relaunch the browser, then retry.
- Restart the computer and retry.
- Check the network connection and speed. If other sites are also slow or unavailable, address that connectivity issue before changing unrelated settings.
- Open StreamYard in a private or incognito browser window and test again.
- Clear the browser’s cache and cookies, sign in again, and retry.
- Temporarily disable browser extensions that could affect pages or connections, then test again.
- Check whether a firewall, proxy, or VPN could be interfering. If you change one, retest and restore your usual setting if it makes no difference.
Test without starting a public broadcast
To separate a live-destination problem from a broader session problem, StreamYard recommends testing with a private YouTube stream or making a recording without streaming to a destination. An unlisted broadcast is another option if you need to share the test link with a specific person.

- Private stream: use it for a test intended to remain limited to the channel’s private audience.
- Unlisted stream: use it when you need to give a particular person the link. Anyone with the link may be able to view it, so do not treat it as private.
- Recording without a destination: use it to check whether the StreamYard session itself can run without sending a broadcast to YouTube.
A successful test can help isolate the workflow, but it does not prove what caused the original preparation status.
If the broadcast was created on YouTube, consider the documented RTMP route
For an existing YouTube-created broadcast, StreamYard documents connecting through YouTube’s RTMP URL and stream key by adding a custom RTMP destination. This is a separate setup option, not a verified workaround for a StreamYard broadcast stuck on “preparing.” StreamYard says this route requires a paid plan; YouTube comments do not appear in the StreamYard studio, and you must enter the studio and click “Go Live” manually.
