First identify which problem you have: audio-video sync means sound does not match the picture; stream latency means the whole broadcast reaches viewers later than the live event. They have different causes, and YouTube’s latency setting is not documented as a lip-sync adjustment. Start by checking the microphone input, then compare a short test broadcast and its playback.
Identify what is out of sync
Before changing settings, note what you observe. Is speech out of step with the speaker’s lips, is the entire stream simply behind the event, is audio missing or intermittent, or does the problem occur for only one viewer or device? Also note whether the mismatch stays constant or grows over time. These distinctions help locate the fault: in the audio input, the outgoing feed, or YouTube playback.
- Audio-video sync problem: The picture and sound do not correspond at the same moment.
- Stream latency: The event happened earlier than viewers see it, but picture and sound may still match each other.
- Missing or intermittent audio: Check mute and input selection before diagnosing sync.
- One affected viewer or device: Compare playback on another device and network before changing the broadcaster’s setup.
YouTube defines stream latency as the time between capture and playback for viewers. Delay can accrue across the broadcaster app, ingest, transcoding, content delivery, and viewer buffering. YouTube’s live settings guidance describes latency as the delay between an encoder or camera capturing an event and that event appearing on the stream.
Check Streamlabs Mobile’s microphone input
Confirm mute state and selected input
- Open Streamlabs Mobile and check that the microphone is not muted.
- Confirm that the app is using the microphone you intend to use, whether that is the phone’s built-in mic or an external input.
- Make a short test using the built-in mic, then repeat with the current external mic under otherwise similar conditions. If the built-in mic works correctly and the external one does not, the external input path is a useful place to investigate.
Isolate Bluetooth and wired microphones
If you are using a Bluetooth microphone or headphones, repeat the test without Bluetooth. Streamlabs’ Mobile Streaming FAQ notes known issues with Bluetooth microphones and headphones. The FAQ says 3.5 mm microphones should work, but that does not establish compatibility for every phone, adapter, or microphone. Check the specific device connection rather than assuming a wired mic or adapter will work.

Test mobile audio settings one at a time
Streamlabs’ mobile app guide describes audio options including sample rate, volume, and external audio channels; its mobile-game guidance also discusses Bluetooth input and sample rate. Record the current values before changing anything. Change one setting, repeat the same brief test, and note the result so you can revert a change that makes no difference or worsens the audio.
The reviewed Streamlabs Mobile guidance does not establish a universal sync-offset value or a guaranteed setting that corrects lip-sync for every phone and input. Avoid applying a desktop audio-delay value to the mobile app: desktop sync-offset or render-delay controls are not established here as Streamlabs Mobile settings.

Use a short test broadcast to locate the problem
- Create a brief private or unlisted test broadcast, if those options are available for your YouTube setup.
- Keep the phone, scene, microphone, and network conditions steady. Reduce unnecessary background app activity during the test.
- Check the live preview or available stream-health information, then watch the resulting playback on at least one other device.
- Compare what you hear and see in the outgoing feed with what happens on the other device. If the mismatch is already present in the feed, focus on the phone, app, and input path. If the feed appears healthy but playback differs, investigate delivery, network, or the viewer’s player.
Streamlabs recommends reducing background load in its mobile guidance, while YouTube recommends testing streams and monitoring stream quality. A single test may not identify every intermittent problem, but keeping conditions consistent makes comparisons more useful.
If the outgoing audio or picture is wrong
- Recheck the microphone mute state and selected input.
- Repeat the built-in-versus-external microphone comparison; if applicable, test without Bluetooth.
- Update Streamlabs Mobile and close apps you do not need during the broadcast.
- Change only one mobile audio setting at a time and repeat the same test.
- Before contacting Streamlabs support, record your phone model, operating system and version, Streamlabs version, connection type, microphone used, and whether the offset is constant or drifts over time.
Those details help narrow down the path involved; the symptom alone does not establish a single cause or a universal correction.

If the outgoing feed is healthy but YouTube playback is not
Check YouTube Live stream health and any reported errors, then test the outbound internet connection. Compare playback on another viewer device and, if possible, another network. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking encoder output and stream health, and testing outbound connectivity when the output is healthy. Its latency guidance explains that network congestion and player buffering can affect delivery.
Do not confuse latency settings with lip-sync controls
YouTube’s latency options affect how quickly the broadcast reaches viewers and can involve a buffering trade-off. The documentation describes them as delivery-latency settings, not as controls for shifting sound against picture. If the sound and picture match but viewers see the event late, review YouTube’s latency guidance and stream health. If lips and speech do not match, continue diagnosing the audio input and outgoing feed instead.
