Streamlabs Mobile and a YouTube playlist do different jobs: Streamlabs broadcasts live video from your phone, while a playlist groups existing videos for on-demand viewing. Neither, by itself, guarantees an unattended 24/7 video channel. Choose a playlist when viewers should pick from a library; use Streamlabs Mobile for a live camera or screen broadcast. If you mean a continuous, pre-recorded YouTube live stream, a cloud service such as StreamNeo is the closer fit.
What “always-on” means here
An always-on channel can mean two different things: a collection viewers can open whenever they want, or a live feed that continuously broadcasts a sequence of video. A YouTube playlist meets the first need. Streamlabs Mobile can create a live broadcast, but a phone-based live session is not a dependable unattended 24/7 playback system.
These are distinct YouTube features: a playlist is a collection of videos, while a live stream is a real-time broadcast. YouTube’s playlist help explains how to create and manage collections; Streamlabs’ mobile guide covers broadcasting from a mobile device.
Streamlabs Mobile vs. a YouTube playlist
| Need | Streamlabs Mobile live stream | YouTube playlist |
|---|---|---|
| Show a live camera or screen | Yes. Streamlabs documents camera and screen broadcasts from iOS and Android. | No. A playlist organizes existing videos. |
| Host a live event with real-time interaction | Yes, while the live broadcast is running. | No. Playlist videos are on demand and may have their own comments. |
| Let viewers choose videos | Viewers can watch the live feed while it is on; an archive may be available afterward. | Yes. Viewers can select videos in the collection. |
| Provide continuous availability | A single mobile session is not guaranteed to stay live around the clock. YouTube’s archive and DVR limits matter for long streams. | Autoplay may start another video, but it is viewer playback behavior and may stop due to inactivity or settings. |
| What setup involves | A phone or tablet, the Streamlabs app, account connection, and YouTube mobile-live eligibility. The app also provides scenes and broadcast settings. | Existing videos and playlist organization; no live broadcast setup. |
| Best suited to | IRL streams, mobile gameplay, live demonstrations, and real-time presence. | Catalogs, themed collections, and on-demand viewing. |
When a YouTube playlist is the right choice
Use a playlist when you want a browsable collection—such as lessons, music videos, or episodes—that visitors can choose from. You can create, share, and manage a playlist using YouTube’s playlist tools. That does not turn the playlist into a creator-operated live feed.

Autoplay is not a 24/7 channel
With Autoplay enabled, YouTube may play another related video after the current one ends. That behavior depends on the viewer’s settings and device, and YouTube says Autoplay may stop after 30 minutes of inactivity on mobile data or four hours on Wi-Fi. It is not a guarantee that every viewer will receive a programmed sequence continuously. See YouTube’s Autoplay help.
When Streamlabs Mobile is the right choice
Choose Streamlabs Mobile when you want to broadcast what your phone sees or displays—for example, a live demonstration or mobile gameplay. Streamlabs documents camera and screen sharing, along with scenes and video, audio, and camera settings. A mobile broadcast serves viewers who want to watch a live event; it is not the same as making a playlist available for later selection.

Check YouTube’s current mobile-live eligibility
YouTube’s current mobile-streaming help page lists channel verification, at least 50 subscribers, and no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days among the requirements. The first mobile live may take up to 24 hours to activate. YouTube also notes that channels under 1,000 subscribers may have mobile-live audience limits and archives set to private by default; account status can affect these details. Check the current requirements in YouTube Studio and YouTube’s mobile streaming help before planning an event.
Streamlabs has a separate article about enabling YouTube streaming on mobile, but its eligibility wording differs from YouTube’s current requirements. For whether your channel can go live, rely on YouTube’s current account-specific guidance rather than assuming one rule applies to every account. Streamlabs’ YouTube mobile guide explains its app connection. Streamlabs says multistreaming to multiple platforms requires Ultra; that paid feature is not a stated requirement simply to stream to YouTube.

Why one long mobile stream is risky for 24/7 use
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Those limits make it unwise to promise that one extended phone session will remain online or leave a complete replay. See YouTube’s live archive help and DVR guidance.
If you need a live event, plan for interruptions
- Confirm your channel’s eligibility and activate mobile live well before the event.
- Use a deliberate broadcast setup and monitor the stream rather than treating a phone session as unattended infrastructure.
- For an extended broadcast, keep a local recording backup and plan a managed encoder workflow; do not rely on YouTube to preserve a stream that exceeds its archive limit.
- Review YouTube’s live streaming tips for operational guidance.
