If Streamlabs chatbot is not responding, first check which product you use: the installed Windows-only Desktop Chatbot or Cloudbot, which runs in the cloud. Their setup and fixes differ. For Cloudbot, check that it is enabled, has moderator permission, appears in the viewer list, and has the relevant command or timer enabled. For the legacy Desktop Chatbot, check its channel connection, command settings, and—if you use timers—whether the stream is live and the required chat activity has occurred.
Desktop Chatbot or Cloudbot: identify which one you have
Streamlabs distinguishes its legacy installed Desktop Chatbot from Cloudbot. The Desktop Chatbot is a Windows application that must remain open and connected to stay in chat; Streamlabs directs Mac and Linux users to Cloudbot. Cloudbot is a cloud-based option. Streamlabs’ comparison page was last updated July 7, 2026. Source: Streamlabs, Choosing the Right Chatbot
| Product | Where it runs | What to check first |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop Chatbot | Installed Windows app; the program must stay open and connected. | Confirm it is connected to the right streamer channel and online. |
| Cloudbot | Cloud-based service in the Streamlabs account. | Confirm it is enabled for the platform, has the required moderator permission, and appears in the viewer list. |
Streamlabs’ documentation does not establish a complete feature-by-feature parity list, so do not assume every Desktop Chatbot feature and setting has a direct Cloudbot equivalent.
Cloudbot is missing or not responding
Streamlabs’ Cloudbot common-problems guide was published February 21, 2021 and last updated July 8, 2026. Follow its checks in order; if the bot is present but a particular feature fails, troubleshoot that feature’s settings rather than repeatedly reconnecting the whole account. #1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Turn Cloudbot on for the right platform. In Streamlabs, open the Cloudbot settings and confirm it is enabled for the platform where you are chatting. If you use a custom bot name, check that this bot—not a different account—has the necessary moderator status.
- Grant the required role. Streamlabs’ setup guide says Twitch and Kick require moderator permission for the bot; for YouTube, add Streamlabs as a moderator. The guide begins by linking the applicable platforms, enabling Cloudbot, then granting permission. Quick Guide: Setting Up Streamlabs Cloudbot
- Check whether it joined. Look for the bot in the platform’s viewer list. If it is absent, revisit the platform connection and permission checks. For YouTube, Streamlabs says the live stream must be public for Cloudbot to join and respond.
- Test a command. Use a command that is enabled and available to your account. Check its exact spelling, required input, user permission, cooldown, and any points cost. For a module-based feature, confirm the relevant module is switched on.
- Check the feature’s own conditions. Timers, commands, and other modules can have separate toggles and requirements. A bot that answers one command may still have a disabled timer or an unmet permission or points condition.
Cloudbot timers do not post
Cloudbot timers need both their interval and their minimum chat-line threshold to be met. Streamlabs says the line minimum counts messages from the last five minutes. Timers run in parallel: if two have the same interval, they can post together rather than taking turns. Check the timer is enabled, lower or meet its line threshold, and allow enough time for the configured interval. Streamlabs’ timer troubleshooting
Desktop Chatbot commands and timers fail

Commands do not work
- Check whether the command is enabled and whether it is intended for chat or whisper; using the wrong mode can make it appear unresponsive.
- Check the command’s cost and the currency settings. A viewer without enough currency may not be able to use a paid command.
- Check cooldowns and permissions, including any restrictions that apply to the person testing it.
- Confirm the bot is connected to the correct streamer channel. A connection to a different channel can leave the command responding in the wrong place or not appearing in the expected chat.
Timers do not post
The legacy FAQ says the stream must be live, the bot must be connected to Streamlabs and show “Stream: online,” and both the minimum number of new chat lines and the timer interval must be reached. A timer message that requires a username or message parameter may not display when the timer has no such input to supply. Check the message for parameters and test it in the context the timer expects.

Messages appear in the bot console but not in chat
Check that the streamer channel selected in the bot connection matches the channel you are actually streaming on. A mismatch can send the bot’s activity somewhere other than the chat you are watching.
Song requests fail
Start with the FAQ’s basic checks: confirm song requests are enabled, the viewer has sufficient currency if requests cost points, and the usage settings permit the request. The FAQ separately suggests resetting queue or settings files if those checks do not resolve the problem. Because that changes local app data, use the dated official FAQ for the exact files and safeguard anything you need before resetting; do not delete files based on a guess.

Sound effects do not play
The legacy FAQ lists the selected output or audio engine, missing sound files, supported file format, Windows mixer mute state, live-only settings, and cooldowns as possible causes. Check them one at a time. Do not treat its unattributed “99%” wording about the audio engine as a measured failure rate.
Scripts are missing or fail to load
Streamlabs’ legacy script guide says to reconnect the bot and streamer accounts in the Scripts tab and describes importing a downloaded ZIP archive. It recommends getting scripts from the Chatbot Discord or another trusted source. The script material and legacy FAQ refer to Python 2.7.13 x86, but the available guidance does not establish that this old dependency is appropriate or secure for current Windows systems. Avoid installing it or running an unknown script solely because an old guide mentions it. Streamlabs Chatbot Scripts

The app crashes or will not start
The legacy FAQ lists Visual C++ runtime components, administrator permissions, Windows Defender, and MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner as possible issues. These are troubleshooting leads from an older chatbot FAQ, not proof that each is a current chatbot dependency. If investigating a runtime issue, obtain software only from an official Microsoft source; do not download runtime installers from unofficial sites. Streamlabs’ separate general Desktop setup guidance mentions Visual C++ 2017 redistributables, but it is not chatbot-specific and does not establish a current legacy chatbot requirement. Getting Started with Streamlabs Desktop
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When to switch from Desktop Chatbot to Cloudbot
If you use a Mac or Linux system, or do not want the installed chatbot to depend on a running Windows program, Cloudbot is the relevant Streamlabs alternative described in its product materials. Cloudbot is available even if you have not switched to Streamlabs Desktop, and Streamlabs says its server-side handling keeps the bot’s CPU load on Streamlabs’ servers; that is a product claim, not an independent performance measurement. Streamlabs also documents importing Nightbot or regular Streamlabs chatbot settings, but the available sources do not guarantee every setting or feature transfers identically.
