For a free, local alternative to Streamlabs Desktop, investigate OBS Studio as the encoder for a prerecorded-video loop. YouTube supports software encoders, but the official material cited here does not document OBS’s media-loop controls, so confirm that the version you choose can repeat a media source before relying on it. If you want a stream that continues without a computer running at home, StreamNeo is the cloud option to consider first: it loops uploaded videos on YouTube, runs up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Which Streamlabs Desktop alternative should you choose?
The main decision is whether you want to run an encoder on a computer you control or use a cloud service to keep prerecorded video live. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers software and hardware encoders and explains how to connect one with a stream URL and key; it does not endorse one desktop application as the best choice for looping. YouTube’s encoder setup guide provides the platform-side workflow.
| Option | Best fit | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Hands-off cloud looping of uploaded videos to YouTube; it runs without a home computer and supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot. | Confirm that your video fits the included pooled storage and review the current plan and terms. |
| OBS Studio | A free local desktop encoder to investigate if you want to operate the stream yourself. | Verify media-source looping in the OBS version you install, then test the full setup before going live. YouTube’s encoder guide does not document OBS-specific loop controls. |
| Streamlabs Desktop | Stay with Streamlabs if its bundled widgets and overlays matter to your setup. | Its YouTube page confirms a Desktop workflow, but the cited information does not compare its looping controls with OBS. |
| Gyre | A cloud prerecorded-video service named on YouTube’s verified encoder list for 24/7 streaming. | Check current availability in India, supported formats, stream limits, pricing, rights obligations, and cancellation terms with the provider; those commercial details are not established by the cited listing. |
Streamlabs says creators can stream to YouTube with Desktop, its OBS plugin, Mobile, Talk Studio, or Console. Its desktop requirements are specific to Streamlabs, not universal requirements for OBS or a measured specification for a particular looping workload. Streamlabs’ YouTube streaming overview lists its workflows; its Desktop requirements page states a minimum of Windows 11 or macOS 12+ and 8 GB RAM, with 16 GB or more recommended and stronger CPU/GPU specifications for more demanding streaming.

YouTube’s general encoder setup applies whether the encoder is OBS or another supported application. The exact loop-control steps depend on the software; verify those in its current documentation and run a test before scheduling a long stream.

- Enable live streaming on your YouTube channel. If this is the first time you enable a live stream, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Channel eligibility and status still apply. The cited setup guidance does not establish an extra India-only encoder requirement.
- Prepare the prerecorded video. Use material you have the rights to broadcast. Test the chosen encoder’s media source and confirm it repeats as intended; check audio, picture, and transitions in a private or otherwise suitable test before a public broadcast.
- Create or open the stream in YouTube Studio. In the encoder settings, select YouTube if the software offers that option. Otherwise copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in the encoder. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Start the encoder and verify the preview. Confirm YouTube receives the intended video and audio before starting the live broadcast. Keep the computer and its internet connection available for the full period you plan to stream.
- Plan archive and replay expectations. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will archive successfully. Keep a local copy if the archive matters. DVR may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours.

Rights and monetization still apply to looped video
Clear the rights before broadcasting
YouTube’s live-stream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for the live content, including applicable music rights, and to comply with relevant laws and regulations. A video being prerecorded or publicly available elsewhere does not by itself establish that you can rebroadcast it. Review YouTube’s Terms of Service and secure the permissions that apply to your content.

A loop does not guarantee monetization
YouTube applies its monetization policies to live streams. Its inauthentic-content policy says repetitive or mass-produced content with little creative, educational, or other value is ineligible; a loop is not a monetization guarantee, and the channel and content remain subject to review. YouTube’s channel monetization policies explain the policy.
Eligible channels may have access to ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships on live streams, but ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. Do not treat a longer or repeated broadcast as assured revenue. YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance describes these features.

Quick Recap
Common problems and what to check
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Check that live streaming is enabled, the correct YouTube stream URL and stream key are in the encoder, and the key has not been replaced. Re-copy the current connection details from YouTube Studio if needed.
- The loop stops or does not repeat: Confirm the selected software’s media source is configured to loop, and test it locally before going live. The cited YouTube and Streamlabs pages do not specify OBS’s current loop-control steps.
- The stream ends when you shut down the PC: That is expected for a local encoder. Keep the computer and connection running for the intended broadcast, or use a cloud service that runs the stream independently.
- A long stream has no complete archive or rewind: YouTube says streams over 12 hours may not be archived and DVR may be limited or unavailable. For an archive-dependent broadcast, plan under 12 hours and retain a separate local recording.
- A stream receives a copyright or monetization restriction: Review the rights for all video and audio, then check the relevant YouTube policy notice. Having a stream key or encoder connection does not grant broadcast rights or guarantee monetization.
