To stop a VIZIO TV from reading menu changes aloud, open Menu → Accessibility → Talk Back and turn Talk Back off. VIZIO calls this text-to-speech feature “Talk Back”; the menu path and shortcut controls can vary by TV generation and remote.
Turn off Talk Back in the TV settings
- Press Menu on the VIZIO remote.
- Open Accessibility.
- Select Talk Back and turn it off. VIZIO describes Talk Back as text-to-speech for TV setting changes. VIZIO’s accessibility instructions show this route for current VIZIO OS TVs.
If your VIZIO TV has an older menu
Try Menu → System → Accessibility → Talk Back, then switch Talk Back off. An older VIZIO guide uses this menu organization and describes Talk Back as the text-to-speech setting. The older VIZIO Quick Start Guide documents that path. Menu labels can differ across TV generations, so use the Accessibility menu rather than assuming every model has the same layout.
Try a remote shortcut if your remote supports it
VIZIO lists several shortcuts, but they depend on the buttons available on your remote. If one is absent or does not work, turn the feature off through the on-screen menu.

- Microphone button: Say “Disable Talk Back.”
- CC button: Hold it for 5 seconds to open the accessibility menu.
- PIC button: Hold it for 5 seconds to toggle text-to-speech off; hold it again for five seconds to turn it back on.
These shortcut instructions appear on VIZIO’s accessibility page. The 2024 VIZIO HD/FHD manual also shows a PIC button on that model family’s remote. It says MUTE enables text-to-speech during setup; for the general task of disabling Talk Back, use the menu instructions above.

If the TV narrates during a program
Check Video Description separately in Accessibility. It is not the same setting as Talk Back: VIZIO describes Video Description as narration of key visual elements in select content. Turning off Talk Back may stop spoken menu feedback without stopping this program narration. VIZIO lists both features separately.
