If your LG TV keeps switching to an HDMI input on its own, first turn off SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC). A connected device can send the TV an input-change signal, even while that device is in standby. If switching continues, turn off Quick Start+ and, on supported models, delete saved connection history. Menu paths depend on your TV’s webOS version and model.
1. Turn off SIMPLINK to test for HDMI-CEC switching
SIMPLINK is LG’s name for HDMI-CEC, a feature that lets connected HDMI devices communicate with the TV. A console, soundbar, set-top box, or streaming device may trigger an input change; LG notes that a connected device can send the signal while in standby. Turning off SIMPLINK is the most direct test for this cause.
Use the route that matches your TV. On 2026-and-later models, LG lists Settings → All Settings → System → External Devices → HDMI Settings → SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC). On 2021-and-later TVs running webOS 6.0, the route is Settings → All Settings → General → External Devices → HDMI Settings → SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC). Some models use slightly different labels; LG’s input-switching guide gives model-era guidance.
Switch SIMPLINK off, then observe whether the TV still changes inputs. If the symptom stops, that is consistent with an HDMI-CEC signal from a connected device. The tradeoff is that HDMI-connected devices may lose SIMPLINK control functions, such as linked power behavior. LG describes this effect for webOS 6.0 and later in its HDMI-CEC guidance.

2. Turn off Quick Start+
LG says Quick Start+ can leave the TV in standby rather than fully off. Disabling it lets the TV turn off completely and may reduce incorrect input detection. The setting path varies across webOS versions, so follow the route for your software generation in LG’s input-switching guide rather than assuming one menu path applies to every set.
3. Delete saved connection history if the option is available
LG says deleting connection history resets how the TV recognizes connected devices. Its guide lists this option for 2021-and-later TVs running webOS 6.0 or later, including 2026-and-later webOS 26 sets. If your menus do not show the option, your model or software may not support it.

4. Identify which HDMI device is triggering the change
If more than one device is connected, check them one at a time. Set-top boxes, soundbars, game consoles, and streaming boxes are examples LG identifies as potential sources of input-change signals. A device may send one while it appears to be off or in standby.
- Turn off SIMPLINK and see whether the switching stops.
- If you need SIMPLINK for other controls, turn it back on and disconnect or fully power down one HDMI device at a time.
- After each change, wait and check whether the TV switches inputs again. A device whose removal or shutdown stops the behavior is a useful lead, though it does not by itself establish a fault.
5. Check the connected device’s CEC and power-sync settings
If one device appears to be responsible, look in that device’s settings for HDMI-CEC, power sync, or automatic standby. Names and menu locations differ by manufacturer and service provider. LG’s CEC guidance notes that set-top-box power-sync and automatic-standby settings may need adjustment; its TV power guidance also explains that the connected HDMI device may have its own setting. Consult that device’s maker or service provider for its exact instructions.

6. Get model-specific help if the switching continues
LG’s menu paths differ across webOS generations and individual models. If a listed setting is missing, check the support page for your exact TV model and software version. If the steps do not resolve the problem, LG recommends using its support chatbot or requesting a technician visit. The symptom alone does not establish that the TV has a hardware defect.
