The title’s promised personal lesson cannot be verified from the available account: the accessible excerpt of Nolen Jonker’s September 22, 2026 XDA Developers article does not reveal what he would do differently. A practical, supportable starting habit comes from Anthropic’s own guidance: explore the code before changing it, plan when the work is uncertain or broad, and verify the result with a relevant check.
Choose the workflow by the shape of the task
Anthropic recommends an explore, plan, implement, commit sequence. That does not mean every request needs a formal plan: planning is useful when the approach is uncertain, the code is unfamiliar, or a change spans multiple files. For a one-sentence, clearly scoped change, planning can add unnecessary overhead. Anthropic’s workflow guidance describes these patterns.
| Task situation | Better starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Small, clear change with an obvious outcome | Ask Claude Code to make the change directly, then run a relevant check. | A separate planning step may cost more than it adds. |
| Unfamiliar code, uncertain approach, or work across several files | Ask Claude Code to explore the relevant code and explain how it currently works; then request a plan before implementation. | Understanding the existing behavior and agreeing on an approach reduces the chance of an implementation built on a mistaken assumption. |
Give Claude Code a bounded task
A useful request says what outcome you want, where the relevant context is, what constraints apply, and how you will know the work is done. Point Claude Code to relevant files or examples rather than asking it to infer the whole project from a vague goal. For an ambiguous or multi-file change, separate investigation from implementation: first ask for an explanation of the current behavior, then review a proposed plan, and only then ask it to make the change.
That sequence gives you a chance to correct a wrong assumption before it becomes code. Keep the active task focused as well. Anthropic notes that context fills during a conversation and performance can degrade as it does; unrelated work may be better handled in a fresh or cleared session. Anthropic’s context and cost guidance discusses this limitation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Make verification part of the request
Do not treat a plausible explanation or a completed edit as proof that the change works. Tell Claude Code which relevant check to run—such as the project’s tests, build, or linter—and ask it to show the output. For a visual change, specify an appropriate comparison, such as checking a screenshot against the intended result, if that is available in the project workflow.
Define success before implementation when possible: name the behavior that should change and any behavior that must stay the same. If a check fails, its output gives you concrete evidence to investigate rather than leaving you to judge the patch by appearance alone. The exact check depends on the repository; the available guidance does not prescribe one universal command.

Put recurring project guidance where it will be reused
For instructions that should apply across conversations, Anthropic describes CLAUDE.md as a file Claude Code reads at the start of each conversation. Keep it concise and project-specific: useful contents include commands, conventions, testing instructions, and known gotchas. Anthropic recommends using skills for specialized material that should be loaded when needed, rather than making every detail part of the standing instructions. See Anthropic’s memory and CLAUDE.md guidance.
These persistent notes complement a well-scoped request; they do not replace explaining the goal and success criteria for the current task. The source article’s particular “one thing” remains unconfirmed, so this workflow should be read as a practical recommendation grounded in Anthropic’s documentation, not as Jonker’s verified advice.
