SQLite is a sensible choice when an application needs local, self-contained data storage and does not need a server to coordinate many clients. Postgres is the stronger direction when multiple clients share a central database or the workload depends on frequent concurrent writes. The deciding issue is architecture and access pattern—not a universal claim that one database is faster.
What is the practical difference between SQLite and Postgres?
SQLite is an embedded database: an application calls the SQLite library, and the database lives in an ordinary file. There is no separate database server process to install or administer, and local application access avoids a network hop. The SQLite project describes this design as suited to local application storage, simplicity, efficiency, and independence. SQLite: About
Postgres follows the client/server model. A separate server process coordinates connections from clients and provides a shared point of access. That structure is useful when the database is a central repository for multiple applications or users, though it means operating and connecting to a database service. SQLite: Appropriate Uses
| Decision axis | SQLite | Postgres / client-server direction |
|---|---|---|
| Deployment | Embedded library and ordinary database file; no separate server process. SQLite: About | A separate server process coordinates client connections. SQLite: Appropriate Uses |
| Access pattern | Good fit when data is local to an application or device. SQLite: Appropriate Uses | Better suited to many clients connecting to a shared central database. SQLite: Appropriate Uses |
| Write concurrency | Multiple applications can access a database, but concurrent writing is more constrained. SQLite FAQ | Client/server engines usually support a higher level of concurrent writes. SQLite FAQ |
| Setup and operations | The engine requires no configuration, and data resides in ordinary files. SQLite: Appropriate Uses | Requires operating and connecting to a database service; weigh central coordination against that overhead. SQLite: Appropriate Uses |
When should you use SQLite or PostgreSQL?
Choose SQLite for local or embedded data
SQLite fits applications that keep their data on the same device or within a self-contained deployment. It can also support some small- to medium-sized websites, but that description alone does not establish that it suits every shared workload. Evaluate how clients reach the database and how writes occur, rather than treating a site label or database size as a decision rule. SQLite: Appropriate Uses

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The SQLite project sums up its design framing with the line “SQLite competes with fopen().” In other words, it is often an alternative to handling a local data file directly, not simply a smaller server database. SQLite: Appropriate Uses
Consider Postgres when access is shared and writes are concurrent
If many independent writers need to update one shared database, a client/server engine such as Postgres is generally better suited to coordinating that activity. SQLite does allow multiple applications to access a database, but its FAQ says client/server engines usually support a higher level of concurrent writes. The right choice still depends on the actual workload; the available guidance does not set a universal user, request, or write-rate threshold. SQLite FAQ

How to decide for your application
- Map where the data lives. If each application or device uses local data, SQLite’s embedded-file model may fit. If clients need a shared central repository, consider the client/server direction.
- Identify who connects. Decide whether the database is accessed locally by an application or by multiple clients that need a server to coordinate connections.
- Examine write patterns. Determine whether writes are occasional and contained or whether many independent writers update the same database concurrently. The latter is a reason to evaluate Postgres.
- Account for operations. Compare SQLite’s lack of a separate server process with the value a database service provides for your shared-access needs.
- Validate against your workload. Do not choose from an assumed user count or a blanket speed ranking. The cited project guidance explains architectural trade-offs, not a head-to-head benchmark for a particular application.
What this comparison can—and cannot—say about the title
The title’s first-person wording does not identify an author’s workload, deployment environment, write rate, database size, team constraints, or migration plan. Without those specifics, it would be misleading to claim that SQLite was faster, that the application had few users, or that Postgres would have been excessive. The defensible takeaway is conditional: SQLite is attractive for local, application-contained storage; Postgres is worth evaluating when shared access and concurrent writes call for server coordination.
