To split a restaurant bill with Apple Wallet in iOS 27, open the receipt through Wallet, Messages, Camera, or Photos, choose Split Bill, select the items you owe for, adjust shared dishes, then send or request your share with Apple Cash. Apple says the calculation includes your share of tax and tip.
What Apple Wallet’s Split Bill feature does
Apple’s iOS 27 feature reads a paper receipt or receipt image and uses Apple Cash to help diners settle up. It is a reimbursement or payment request between people—not a way to divide the restaurant’s original card charge at the point of sale. Apple distinguishes Apple Cash, which sends and receives money, from Apple Pay, which is used to spend money. Apple Support’s Apple Cash overview explains that distinction.
You can assign specific items to yourself, account for shared dishes, add a tip, and then send a payment or request money. Apple says the calculated amount includes your share of tax and tip.

What you need—and where it works
- Receipt scanning requires Apple Intelligence and Siri enabled, Apple Cash set up, and an eligible Apple device running the latest software. Apple’s support instructions reviewed here do not list specific compatible iPhone models, so check Apple’s current compatibility guidance for your device.
- Apple Cash person-to-person service is available in the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. In general, users must be at least 18 and U.S. residents. Apple describes a Family setup for users under 18, with some feature limitations.
- Apple says Apple Cash is provided by Green Dot Bank, Member FDIC, and that Apple Payments Services LLC acts as a service provider; Apple Inc. and Apple Payments Services LLC are not banks.
If receipt scanning is unavailable, you can still send or request a specific amount through Messages using Apple Cash. That fallback settles money between diners but does not assign receipt items.
