Spiceworks announced a cloud-based version of its Inventory application on October 9, 2018, positioning it alongside Spiceworks Help Desk and Remote Support. The announcement said the cloud app was available immediately. It described network discovery and hardware and software inventory, but it does not establish whether the service remains available or supported today.
What was Spiceworks Inventory Online?
Spiceworks Inventory Online was the cloud-based version of Spiceworks’ IT inventory application, announced at SpiceWorld in Austin. The company presented it as part of a connected set of cloud tools for inventory, help-desk ticketing and remote support. What could it discover and record?
The 2018 announcement said the application could discover IP-enabled devices, including laptops, servers, smartphones and IoT devices. It described these inventory details:
- Network and device identifiers: manufacturer, MAC address, IP address, device name and open ports.
- Workstation and server hardware: CPU, memory, disk, network and serial data.
- Installed software: software name, vendor, version and installation date.
- Operating systems: Windows and Mac systems, including flags for end-of-life systems.
- Unknown vendors: the tool could identify unknown vendors and create a help-desk ticket for investigation.
These are the functions described at launch; the announcement does not document current coverage, feature limits or supported versions.

How did it connect inventory with Help Desk?
Spiceworks described Inventory, Help Desk and Remote Support as a single ecosystem intended to connect information about network hardware and software with end-user support work. One stated example was creating a ticket when the inventory system encountered an unknown vendor. The announcement explained the planned integration, but did not publish a measured effect on ticket resolution, support workload or return on investment.
What did the cloud release add?
The announcement said the cloud version was available immediately on October 9, 2018. Spiceworks also previewed personalized in-app insights and recommendations for the following months. Examples included warnings that laptops might need replacement and alerts about abnormal help-desk volume involving antivirus software. These were vendor examples of anticipated recommendations, not reported results from deployed AI features.

Manish Dixit, then Spiceworks senior vice president of products and engineering, said the integrated cloud applications were part of a strategy to use AI to connect IT professionals with useful content, tools and experts. That statement describes the company’s direction at launch; it does not verify subsequent delivery or present-day functionality.
Is Spiceworks Inventory still supported?
The 2018 announcement confirms that Spiceworks launched a cloud Inventory application, but it does not establish its current availability, support lifecycle, pricing, data residency or feature limits. Those details should not be inferred from the launch announcement. Check current Spiceworks product and support information before choosing it for a new deployment or relying on it for an existing one.

Where can you find historical administration guidance?
Packt’s 2013 book Getting Started with Spiceworks is a historical reference for the product’s administration. Its age means it should not be treated as documentation for the cloud application or for current features. Packt book information
