“SPICE Made Easy” is Kenneth Wyatt’s 2013 review of Gilles Brocard’s The LTspice IV Simulator – Manual, Methods and Applications. The book is presented as a broad, 700-plus-page reference for learning LTspice IV, from schematic entry and circuit analysis to component models and worked examples. Its detailed scope may still help readers understand what a substantial LTspice handbook can teach, but software-specific instructions should be checked against documentation for the version they use.

What “SPICE Made Easy” refers to

The title belongs to an EE Times book review by Kenneth Wyatt, published September 5, 2013. Wyatt reviewed Gilles Brocard’s The LTspice IV Simulator – Manual, Methods and Applications, a handbook associated with Würth Elektronik. The review is about that book and its coverage of LTspice IV; it is not a current, general guide to every SPICE simulator. Read Wyatt’s review at EE Times.

What the handbook teaches

Wyatt describes a 21-chapter reference that moves from introductory material toward circuit analysis, modeling, and applications. Its reported coverage includes:

  • Getting started and building schematics: SPICE history and basics, schematic editing, and the use of probes and measurements.
  • Running and interpreting analyses: DC, AC, and transient simulation, along with FFT analysis.
  • Working with models and components: importing circuit models and examining passive and semiconductor components, transformers, and inductors.
  • Applying the workflow: worked examples, including DC-DC converter circuits.

That range makes the book’s stated purpose broader than a quick-start manual: it aims to connect the mechanics of entering a circuit and running a simulation with the interpretation of results and the use of models.

Who may find a single-volume reference useful

The handbook’s described scope may suit a learner who wants a structured path through LTspice IV, or a practitioner who prefers a book that gathers schematic entry, analysis types, component topics, and examples in one place. Readers looking for an introduction can start with the basics and schematic workflow; those with more experience can use its analysis, modeling, and application topics as reference areas.

Wyatt’s review describes the contents rather than testing the book as a modern learning resource. It does not establish how well its explanations match current software interfaces, whether the book remains available, or whether its examples work unchanged in later releases.

Is a 2013 LTspice IV guide still useful?

It can be useful for its subject coverage and as a historical reference to LTspice IV. Treat instructions tied to menus, interface behavior, model import, or other software details as version-specific: verify them against the documentation for the LTspice release you are using. The review does not evaluate later versions, so it cannot establish that every procedure or screen described in the book remains current.

The review also quotes Wyatt’s 2013 description of LTspice IV as one of the most popular SPICE versions “today.” That is a statement about the period when he wrote, not evidence of present-day popularity. Similarly, the price and ordering routes mentioned in the 2013 article are historical and do not confirm present price or availability.

Where to read the review

Wyatt’s original article provides the book description and chapter-level overview: “SPICE Made Easy,” EE Times, September 5, 2013. It is the source for the book’s reported scope; readers considering the handbook should separately confirm its current availability and check any software-specific instructions against current LTspice documentation.
