There is no single IR profile that works for every soundbar. To find the right one, note the exact soundbar and remote model numbers, then check both manufacturers’ support information: the soundbar maker may publish a code or a learning procedure, while the remote maker determines which codes and setup steps its remote supports. If you want to control the soundbar without entering an IR code, check whether both devices support HDMI-CEC.
What “finding an IR profile” can mean
The phrase can refer to two different setups:
- Entering a soundbar code into another remote: You use a code listed for the soundbar when programming a TV, cable, streaming-device, or universal remote. The remote’s own guide determines how to enter the code and whether that remote supports it.
- Teaching the soundbar commands: If the soundbar supports IR learning, it can learn selected commands sent by another infrared remote. This is not the same as looking up a profile number.
Neither method is universal. A code or button sequence documented for one model should not be assumed to work with another product from the same brand.
How to look up the right code or procedure
- Identify both devices. Find the soundbar’s full model number and the controlling remote’s manufacturer and model. Note whether the remote came with a TV, streaming device, or cable box, or is a universal remote.
- Search the soundbar maker’s official support page and manual. Look for terms such as “IR code,” “remote control,” “universal remote,” and “IR learning.” Some manufacturers publish code tables for selected products; others explain how to teach commands instead.
- Check the remote maker’s setup guide. Follow its device-programming steps and confirm that the remote supports the soundbar or the listed code. A code appearing in a soundbar maker’s materials does not guarantee that every remote contains it.
- Match the instructions to the exact model and command. Use a code only when the official information identifies the applicable soundbar model and function. If no compatible code or learning procedure is documented, contact the manufacturers’ support teams with both model numbers.
When the soundbar supports IR learning
Follow the soundbar’s own manual rather than trying a button sequence from another model. For example, JBL’s instructions for the Cinema SB250 describe entering learning mode with the soundbar’s Surround button, then sending volume-up, volume-down, mute, and power commands from a TV remote. The instructions include LED feedback and a step to exit learning mode; those details apply to the SB250 procedure and should not be generalized to other soundbars. Try HDMI-CEC if you want control without an IR code
HDMI-CEC can let a TV and soundbar control functions such as volume, mute, or power over an HDMI connection, if both devices support the feature and it is enabled. The available functions and setting names vary, so consult both manuals for the connection requirements and menu labels. The Citation Multibeam 1100 manual is one model-specific example of CEC control; it is not evidence that every soundbar and TV combination supports the same functions. Check the IR signal path before changing profiles
A remote can appear not to work even when its profile is correct if an IR receiver is blocked. When a soundbar sits in front of a TV, it may obstruct the TV’s IR sensor. Roku advises positioning devices so the receiver is not blocked and the remote has a clear path. Roku guidance on soundbar placement and remote control.

- Make sure the remote is aimed at the receiver for the device you want to control.
- Check that the soundbar is not covering the TV’s IR receiver; reposition either device if practical.
- If the receiver’s location or installation makes a clear path difficult, an IR repeater may relay the signal. It addresses an obstruction or placement problem, not a missing code. If the original soundbar remote is missing
Check the soundbar manufacturer’s support site for a compatible replacement and verify it against the exact model. Availability can depend on product age: Teufel says some older products may no longer have replacement remotes in stock and lists a universal remote for specified product families.
