Sony lists it at about 124 pounds and roughly 42 inches tall, so it suits a fixed party or performance setup better than casual portable use. Its specifications establish what it can connect to, but early listening previews are not enough to judge its sound against competitors.
What is the Sony ULT TOWER MAX?
Sony’s U.S. support listing identifies the ULT TOWER MAX as model SRS-ULT3000. It is the largest and most expensive member of Sony’s new three-speaker ULT Tower lineup, according to launch previews. Do not confuse it with the older ULT TOWER 9 (SRS-ULT900), which is a different product with separate specifications.
The Max is designed for party, DJ, karaoke, and live-performance settings. Its mix of RCA and XLR connections, microphone input, USB ports, and Bluetooth makes it more adaptable than a speaker intended only for wireless music playback.
How large is it, and can you use it without an outlet?
Sony lists approximate dimensions of 21.02 × 41.81 × 18.58 inches and an approximate weight of 124.12 pounds. That is a substantial footprint and enough weight to make placement and moving logistics important. Tom’s Guide’s preview reports four handles and wheels, but the speaker is still not lightweight portable audio gear.

Sony specifies AC power (120–240 V, 50/60 Hz). The SRS-ULT3000 specification page does not list a built-in battery or battery playback time, so plan to use it near a suitable outlet rather than assuming it will play unplugged. Battery claims for the separate ULT TOWER 9 do not apply to the Max.
What connections and sound controls does it have?
Sony lists these connection options and supported formats for the SRS-ULT3000:

For sound shaping, Sony lists ULT1, ULT2, Flat, and Live modes, a 10-band custom EQ, DSEE, sound-field optimization, and horizontal/vertical sound tuning. The driver layout comprises two front woofers and one rear woofer, two midrange units, two front tweeters, and two rear tweeters. Sony lists the approximate driver sizes as 11.02 inches per woofer, 4.72 inches per midrange unit, 0.98 inches per front tweeter, and 1.57 inches per rear tweeter. Its published frequency range is 20 Hz–20,000 Hz at 44.1 kHz sampling; that specification alone does not establish perceived sound quality or maximum output.
What do early listening previews say about the sound?
Tom’s Guide reports listening to the speaker for just under an hour at a pre-launch event and characterizes the new ULT Tower range as bass-first. That is a short-session subjective impression, not a measurement or long-term review. TechRadar also published a brief hands-on preview and said further testing was needed to establish how the speakers compete. Taken together, these previews suggest the Max is aimed at listeners who want prominent bass, but they do not prove it sounds better than another party speaker.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?
Sony’s specifications describe splash protection on the top surface. That wording is not a general weatherproof rating for the whole speaker, and it should not be taken as permission to leave the Max in rain or expose it to outdoor conditions. Tom’s Guide reports IPX4 for the three new Tower models, but Sony’s cited Max specification page does not state that rating. Check Sony’s current product documentation for the protection claim applicable to your region before using it outdoors.
How does it compare with the ULT Tower 5 and 7?
The Max is positioned as the largest and most expensive model in the new three-speaker lineup, but the available preview coverage does not establish an objective sound-quality ranking. The following is what can responsibly be compared from the available information:

Who should consider the ULT TOWER MAX?
The Max is a better fit when you need a powerful party or performance hub with wired audio options and substantial bass-focused tuning, and have space and mains power for it. Consider a smaller or battery-powered speaker if you need routine portability, genuinely unplugged playback, or easier transport. Before buying, match the XLR, RCA, USB, and microphone connections to your gear, and verify protection and linking requirements in Sony’s documentation.
Where to find Sony’s specifications and manuals
Sony’s SRS-ULT3000 specifications page is the primary reference for listed dimensions, power, drivers, connections, and sound modes.
