Sony announced the ECM-AX10 on October 8, 2026, and says it is available for presale in the US through Sony, Amazon, B&H, Best Buy, Sweetwater, Guitar Center, and other authorized dealers. Sony lists a US MSRP of $249.99. Before ordering, confirm current stock and delivery terms with the seller, and check Sony’s compatibility list: the mic requires a USB-C phone running iOS 18 or later or Android 14 or later.

Where to preorder the Sony ECM-AX10

Sony names its own store, Amazon, B&H, Best Buy, Sweetwater, Guitar Center, and other authorized dealers as US presale channels. Sony’s US product page displayed $249.99 when checked. Availability, inventory, delivery dates, and seller terms can change, so verify the live listing before placing an order. Look for the exact model name, Sony ECM-AX10, rather than a generic spatial-audio microphone listing.

Sony announced these regional prices: $249.99 USD MSRP in the US and $349.99 CAD MSRP in Canada. Sony Europe says availability begins in October 2026 at an approximate price of €199. Confirm the price, taxes, shipping, and availability shown by a seller in your region.

Will the ECM-AX10 work with your phone?

Sony specifies a smartphone with a USB-C port and iOS 18 or later or Android 14 or later. Meeting those operating-system requirements alone does not guarantee that every phone model has been tested for operating quality. Sony directs buyers to its ECM-AX10 product page to check the supported-model list; Sony says devices not on that list have not been tested.

#1 Best Overall
Sony ECM-AX10 Spatial Audio Microphone for Smartphone Recording
  • IMMERSIVE SPATIAL AUDIO: Four integrated omnidirectional microphone capsules capture balanced, positional sound with accurate 3D placement, bringing greater realism and immersion to videos.
  • FLEXIBLE AUDIO FORMATS: Choose Ambisonics for immersive playback, binaural audio for headphone listening and broad platform compatibility, or conventional stereo for a familiar recording experience.
  • CLEARER SOUND IN CHALLENGING ENVIRONMENTS: Switchable Noise Cut and Low Cut filters reduce unwanted background noise, low-frequency rumble, wind, air conditioning, and other vibrations. The included detachable fur-type windscreen further reduces wind noise outdoors.
  • COMPACT USB TYPE-C DESIGN: Weighing approximately 24 g, the slim ECM-AX10 is easy to carry and connects directly to a compatible device through USB Type-C, with no extra connectors required.
  • FLEXIBLE SHOOTING AND STABLE SETUP: A built-in accelerometer automatically detects the microphone’s orientation, while the included cold-shoe microphone holder and USB Type-C extension cable support stable shooting and flexible rigging.

Sony says some functions, including video recording, editing, and export, require its Spatial Audio Video Tool app. It also cautions that smartphone recording quality may vary with device performance. Sony lists 4K recording support as planned from December 2026 onward; do not assume that capability is available at launch.

What the ECM-AX10 does

The ECM-AX10 is a USB-C microphone designed to connect directly to a compatible smartphone, without a separate recorder. Sony says it weighs approximately 24 g and has four built-in omnidirectional microphone capsules. It offers three recording modes aimed at different publishing and listening workflows:

Sony ECMMS2 Stereo Condenser Microphone
  • Lightweight Design: Weighing only 160 grams, this microphone is easy to carry and maneuver.
  • Unidirectional Polar Pattern: Captures sound from a single direction for clear, focused audio.
  • High Signal-to-Noise Ratio: With a 69 decibel signal-to-noise ratio, this microphone delivers clear audio even in noisy environments.
  • XLR Connectivity: This microphone has a 3-pin XLR connector for easy connection to camcorders and other audio equipment.
  • Premium Sony Branding: Part of Sony's ECM series, this microphone is built to professional standards and quality.
Mode Sony’s stated use What to consider
Ambisonics Works with Sony’s Spatial Audio Video Tool app to support publishing in Eclipsa Audio on YouTube. Choose this workflow if you plan to use the Sony app and publish spatial audio in the supported format.
Binaural Designed for a three-dimensional listening experience on headphones, including where Eclipsa Audio is not supported. Best aligned with headphone-oriented playback, according to Sony.
Stereo A versatile mode for headphones and speakers that can be used with general recording and video apps. Consider this when you want a conventional stereo workflow rather than the dedicated spatial-audio app path.

Sony’s app for iOS and Android can record video, review clips, make simple edits, and export content with spatial audio. Sony describes Eclipsa Audio as open-source spatial-audio technology based on the IAMF specification and available under a royalty-free license from the Alliance for Open Media.

What Sony’s certification claim means

Sony calls the ECM-AX10 the world’s first Eclipsa Audio-certified microphone for smartphones and says it was certified on September 15, 2026. Sony describes certification as confirming encoding and compatibility requirements based on IAMF. The claim is Sony’s; it should not be read as independent verification that no competing product could qualify.

Sony’s launch announcement also includes a performance assessment from Sony PCL Sound Engineer Mr. Iwana, who praises the microphone’s depth, low and low-mid response, high frequencies, and sense of spatial presence. That is a vendor-side statement, not an independent comparative test. The launch and product pages provide no independent benchmark results.

Before you place an order

  • Confirm that the listing is for the Sony ECM-AX10 and that the seller is one Sony identifies or an authorized dealer.
  • Check your phone’s USB-C port, operating-system version, and model against Sony’s supported-model list.
  • Decide whether you need Ambisonics through Sony’s app, binaural headphone playback, or a more general stereo workflow.
  • Check whether the app’s required recording, editing, or export steps fit your workflow, and do not count on 4K support until Sony makes its planned December 2026 availability current.
  • Verify the seller’s current price, inventory, delivery date, and return terms before checkout.
