There is no universal winner in the available phone-level results. Apple’s A19-powered iPhone 17 led the cited Geekbench 6 single-core test and completed a video-transcoding task faster. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered Galaxy S25 scored higher in Geekbench 6 multi-core and 3DMark Wild Life Original Unlimited. These results compare specific phones and workloads—not chips isolated in identical test devices.
Specifications: A19 vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
| Specification | Apple A19 | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 |
|---|---|---|
| CPU configuration | Six cores: two performance cores and four efficiency cores, according to Apple’s iPhone 17 specifications. | One prime core up to 3.4 GHz and five performance cores up to 3.2 GHz, according to Qualcomm’s product brief. CPU versions vary; Qualcomm directs readers to device makers for handset speeds. |
| GPU and graphics features | Five-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and hardware-accelerated ray tracing, per Apple’s iPhone 17 specifications. | Not stated in the cited Qualcomm product brief. |
| Neural processing | 16-core Neural Engine, per Apple’s iPhone 17 specifications. | Not stated in the cited Qualcomm product brief. |
| Manufacturing process | Apple says A19 uses third-generation 3-nanometer technology in its iPhone 17 launch announcement. | No directly comparable manufacturing-node figure is established by the cited sources. |
Both are integrated mobile platforms, not practical drop-in upgrades: buyers get them as part of a handset. Their specifications also do not guarantee the same real-world performance across phones, because cooling, firmware, power limits, memory, and software can affect results.
Benchmark results from the iPhone 17 and Galaxy S25
Tom’s Guide’s 2025 comparison tested an iPhone 17 with A19 and a Galaxy S25 it identified as using Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Scores below belong to those tested phones; they are not guaranteed results for every A19 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 device.
| Test or workload | iPhone 17 (A19) | Galaxy S25 (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3) | What the result indicates |
|---|---|---|---|
| Geekbench 6 single-core | 3,701 | 2,916 | The iPhone 17 scored higher in this test, which emphasizes single-core performance. |
| Geekbench 6 multi-core | 9,460 | 9,886 | The Galaxy S25 scored higher in this multi-core test. |
| 3DMark Wild Life Original Unlimited | 130.97 fps | 158.02 fps | The Galaxy S25 recorded the higher frame rate in this graphics test. |
| Adobe Premiere Rush video transcoding | 0:22 | 0:53 | The iPhone 17 finished this software workflow sooner; it is not a pure CPU benchmark. |
What the CPU scores mean
The iPhone’s higher Geekbench 6 single-core result points to an advantage in that particular short, single-threaded test. The Galaxy S25’s higher multi-core result points the other way for the test’s parallel workload. Neither result alone predicts how quickly every app will open, render, or respond: real tasks may use different code paths and rely on memory, graphics, or operating-system behavior as well as the CPU.

What the graphics result does—and does not—show
The Galaxy S25’s higher result in 3DMark Wild Life Original Unlimited is evidence of stronger performance in that named test on those phones. It does not establish which handset will deliver better gaming in every title, or how either will perform after a long session. The available comparison does not provide matched sustained-load and thermal measurements, so it cannot settle long-term gaming performance.
Why the transcoding time is not a chip score
The Premiere Rush result reflects a complete software workflow on each phone. App optimization, operating-system behavior, hardware acceleration, and device power management can all contribute; the 22-second and 53-second times should not be read as a controlled measurement of CPU speed alone.

AI features and efficiency
The A19 specifications identify a 16-core Neural Engine and Neural Accelerators in its GPU. Those are hardware features, not a direct comparison of AI speed or capability: the cited tests do not benchmark AI workloads, and an on-device feature also depends on software availability and implementation. The cited Qualcomm brief does not provide a matching Neural Engine or AI performance figure, so these sources cannot establish which platform is faster for AI tasks.

There is likewise no matched power or battery test here. A processor specification or benchmark score cannot establish which phone lasts longer: battery capacity, display, radio use, software, and power management also shape whole-phone battery behavior.

Which one should you choose?
- Prioritize the A19’s evidence here if your main interest is the iPhone 17’s higher single-core score in this Geekbench 6 comparison or its quicker Premiere Rush transcode in Tom’s Guide’s test.
- Prioritize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 result here if you are comparing the tested Galaxy S25 and value its higher Geekbench 6 multi-core and 3DMark Wild Life Original Unlimited results.
- Choose the handset, not a score in isolation. Compare the exact phone’s operating system, software support, configuration, price, regional availability, and performance in the apps and games you use. A19 is found in the iPhone 17; Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is used in Android phones such as the Galaxy S25 cited above. Confirm the precise model and regional configuration before buying.
Apple’s launch claim that A19’s CPU is 1.5 times faster and its GPU more than twice as fast applies to Apple’s comparison with the A15 Bionic in iPhone 13—not to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It is not a direct result in this comparison.

Benchmark databases can change as new devices and submissions appear. Geekbench’s live mobile and iPhone charts can help check newer results, but compare the same Geekbench generation and verify the listed device identity. Do not combine scores from different versions or test protocols into a single average.
