In Geekbench’s live mobile results, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra with Snapdragon 8 Elite scores higher than the iPhone 14 Pro with A16 Bionic in both listed Geekbench 6 CPU tests. The figures are results for those phones, not a controlled test isolating the processors, so they do not establish that every Snapdragon 8 Elite phone will outperform every A16-equipped iPhone.

How the two chips are built

Qualcomm describes Snapdragon 8 Elite as a mobile platform centered on its custom Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU and Hexagon NPU. Its product page highlights performance and power-efficiency improvements; the company’s launch announcement specifies a second-generation custom Oryon CPU. Qualcomm’s published launch comparisons were against Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, not Apple A16 Bionic. Those claims therefore should not be read as measured gains over the A16. See Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite product information and its October 2024 launch announcement.

The available sources do not provide a complete, verified specification-by-specification comparison with A16 Bionic. In particular, they do not establish matched tests of sustained performance, thermals or battery efficiency. A comparison based only on chip names or vendor claims would leave out the phone design and testing conditions that affect real results.

Phone and processor CPU cores listed Geekbench 6 single-core Geekbench 6 multicore
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra — Snapdragon 8 Elite 8 2,475 9,829
iPhone 14 Pro — A16 Bionic 6 2,368 6,412
iPhone 15 — A16 Bionic not stated in the cited table entry 2,252 5,967

The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s listed result is higher in both tests than the iPhone 14 Pro’s: by 107 points in single-core and 3,417 in multicore. That is a device-to-device comparison, not a lab-controlled chip-only result. The different A16 scores listed for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 also show why a processor name does not correspond to one guaranteed score. Check Geekbench’s mobile benchmark table for its current entries.

How to interpret the broader comparison

CPU scores are only one part of performance

Single-core and multicore results describe different CPU workloads and should be considered separately. They do not, by themselves, establish graphics performance, gaming experience, performance over a long sustained workload or battery life. Phone cooling, software and other device-level differences can affect what a user experiences.

Do not treat cross-platform AnTuTu totals as a definitive verdict

NanoReview reports Geekbench 6 results of 3,013 versus 2,631 for single-core and 9,287 versus 6,602 for multicore, as well as AnTuTu 11 sample values of 3,126,402 versus 1,626,008 for Snapdragon 8 Elite and A16 Bionic, respectively. These are results reported on its comparison page; sample counts and page contents may change. NanoReview explicitly warns that “AnTuTu results from iOS and Android are not directly comparable!” The large AnTuTu gap should not be presented as an apples-to-apples measure of which chip is faster. See NanoReview’s comparison page.

Keep vendor launch claims in their stated context

Qualcomm’s launch announcement describes its own testing basis, including Geekbench 6.2 single-thread and multithread, Speedometer and AnTuTu CPU, but its cited generational comparison is with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It is not evidence of a direct A16 Bionic comparison. The announcement named manufacturers it expected to launch Snapdragon 8 Elite devices with, including Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus and others; that October 2024 list is not a complete or current device-compatibility list.

What the results mean when choosing a phone

The benchmark evidence supports a narrow conclusion: the listed Galaxy S25 Ultra result exceeds the listed iPhone 14 Pro result in Geekbench 6 single-core and multicore. It does not settle which complete phone is the better buy, nor does it predict every phone using either chip.
