Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 is the newer platform, and the available Geekbench 6.7 averages are higher than Snapdragon 6 Gen 1’s. The benchmark samples are small and come from different phones, however, so they point toward a performance advantage rather than prove a precise chip-to-chip uplift. For a phone purchase, the complete device matters more than the processor name alone.
At a glance: what separates the two platforms?
| Feature | Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 | Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 |
|---|---|---|
| Announcement | September 2022; devices were expected in Q1 2023 | May 7, 2026; devices were expected in the second half of 2026 |
| Process | 4 nm, according to Qualcomm | 4 nm, according to Notebookcheck |
| CPU information | Qualcomm lists Kryo CPU speeds up to 2.2 GHz | Notebookcheck lists an 8-core CPU and a headline maximum of 2.3 GHz |
| Graphics | Adreno; Qualcomm describes HDR gaming at 60+ FPS | Adreno 812, according to Notebookcheck |
| Connectivity called out in available platform information | X62 5G, mmWave and sub-6 GHz, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 | Qualcomm’s launch release highlights 5G and Wi-Fi 7 |
Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 in September 2022 and said devices were expected in Q1 2023. It announced Gen 5 on May 7, 2026, with devices expected in the second half of 2026. Those are announcement and forecast dates, not confirmation that every model is available in every market. See Qualcomm’s Gen 1 announcement and its Gen 5 launch release.
The process labels do not establish that one chip is faster or more efficient: both platforms are listed as 4 nm, and the sources do not provide a controlled power or battery comparison. Qualcomm’s official Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 specifications list the process, CPU headline and connectivity. The cited Gen 5 release does not state its process; the 4 nm listing comes from Notebookcheck.
What do the Geekbench 6.7 results show?
Notebookcheck’s currently listed averages favor Gen 5 in both Geekbench 6.7 CPU tests. The underlying device samples are unmatched, so the figures describe those database entries rather than a controlled comparison of the two platforms.

| Geekbench 6.7 test | Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 | Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 |
|---|---|---|
| Single-core average | 943; range 940–948 across four device entries | 1068; range 1038–1097 across two device entries |
| Multi-core average | 2804; range 2772–2896 across four device entries | 3273; range 3202–3344 across two device entries |
These averages work out to roughly 13% higher single-core and 17% higher multi-core scores for the Gen 5 sample. Those percentages are arithmetic comparisons of Notebookcheck’s aggregates, not published Qualcomm claims or results from a matched test. The Gen 1 entries are Honor Magic6 Lite, Honor Magic7 Lite, Honor Pad 9 and Sony Xperia 10 VI; the Gen 5 entries are Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G and Honor X80 Pro Max. Differences in phone design, cooling, memory and software can affect results. See the Notebookcheck Gen 1 listings and Gen 5 listings.
Notebookcheck’s Gen 5 page has conflicting CPU frequency details: its headline says up to 2.3 GHz, while its detailed section gives different core frequencies. The headline is the safer figure to cite; the detailed frequencies should not be treated as settled without independent confirmation.

How should Qualcomm’s performance claims be read?
Qualcomm says Gen 5 delivers up to 21% better GPU performance, 20% faster app launches and 18% less screen stutter. These are vendor claims, and the launch release frames the comparison in previous-generation context; it does not establish those percentages as direct Gen 5-versus-Gen 1 results. The release also highlights Wi-Fi 7 and 5G connectivity.

Qualcomm’s Gen 1 product page separately claims up to 35% CPU and 30% GPU performance improvement versus its previous generation. The 30% figure is not a Gen 1-to-Gen 5 comparison, so it cannot be directly weighed against Gen 5’s 21% GPU claim. Different generations and comparison baselines make that reading misleading.

Which platform should you choose?
Choose a Gen 5 phone when performance headroom is the priority
The available benchmark aggregates are higher for Gen 5, and it is the newer platform. That makes it the more promising starting point if two phones are otherwise comparable, but the figures do not guarantee how a particular phone will perform in prolonged gaming or everyday use.
Choose by the whole phone, not the chipset label
These are smartphone platforms, not processors that can be upgraded independently. Compare the actual phones’ price, memory and storage configuration, display, cameras, battery capacity, charging, software support, regional 5G bands and sustained thermal behavior. No independent controlled Gen 1-versus-Gen 5 sustained gaming or battery test is established in the available material.
Quick Recap
What to check before buying a phone
- Confirm the exact phone model and regional variant; modem and supported network bands can differ by device and market.
- Check that the phone’s Wi-Fi support matches your router and region. Gen 1 platform information lists Wi-Fi 6E, while Qualcomm’s Gen 5 launch release highlights Wi-Fi 7; the phone maker’s specifications determine what a specific model implements.
- Compare memory, storage, screen, camera system and battery specifications on the phone itself. The chipset comparison cannot settle those device-level trade-offs.
- Look for testing of the particular phone if sustained gaming, heat or battery life is central to your choice; the benchmark aggregates above do not measure those outcomes.
