Can you leave smart lights outside in the rain?
Only if the specific product and its instructions permit the exposure. Weather suitability applies to the complete setup, not just the illuminated strip or stick: check the light, controller, connectors, and power supply individually. An IP rating listed for one component does not automatically cover the others.

Philips Hue’s US listing describes its 33 ft Flux Outdoor Multicolor LED Strip for backyards, patios, and front porches. The listing gives the strip an IP67 rating but the power supply an IP20 rating. Those are different ratings for different parts of the system; do not treat the PSU as having the strip’s protection. Check the product’s installation instructions and your region’s listing before installing it.
Indoor strips in sheltered locations
A covered porch does not automatically make an indoor product safe outdoors. Nanoleaf identifies its Essentials lightstrips as indoor-use products. Its guidance says a sheltered power supply may handle light rain, humidity, and sprinkler splashes, but is not safe for direct heavy rain, snow buildup, or sitting in puddles.
