Sky Glass and Sky Stream are reported to be getting a free Sky OS update that changes how customers navigate, find recent activity, organise programmes and control recordings. T3 reported on 30 September 2026 that a limited trial was underway; it said the first update was expected before the end of 2026, but did not confirm a final rollout date or that the software had shipped.
What is changing on Sky Glass and Sky Stream?
T3’s 30 September 2026 report describes a redesigned Sky OS interface for both Sky Glass and Sky Stream. The main changes are a direct-access menu, a revised home screen and TV Guide, a combined library, recent-activity shortcuts, clearer recording choices and an entertainment-focused voice assistant. The report characterises the update as free for existing customers.

The features were described during a demonstration and trial, so the final interface and feature set may differ. T3 was the sole source for these details in the available reporting; no Sky primary announcement was cited.

A new top-level menu is reported to provide direct access to Home, TV Guide, My Library, Sport, My Account, text search and Settings. A clock-style tab called “Recents” groups activity; T3 noted that this label might change.
Home screen and TV Guide
The home screen’s upper area is described as rotating curated content. Pressing up on the remote opens a larger trailer. The redesigned guide uses channel icons and offers a more direct route into live TV, without the former picture-in-picture step when entering the guide.
My Library and Recents
My Library replaces Playlist as the umbrella for Watchlist items and Recordings. Customers can also add favourite actors and sports teams to profiles. Recents is described as bringing together Continue Watching, recently visited channels and recently opened apps.
How the new recording controls are described
The report says programme pages will distinguish between adding a programme to the Watchlist and recording it. Choices include “Record Show” and “Record Series,” with options for individual programmes and profile-specific selections. Recordings are held in Sky’s cloud rather than on a local hard drive.

T3 reports an allowance of 1,000 hours of cloud recordings, attributing that figure to Sky. Recording is not universal across channels: the report says BBC programmes remain Watchlist-only and are watched through BBC iPlayer, while Sky channels, including Sky Sports, allow recording. Check the option shown for the specific programme rather than assuming every channel can be recorded.
What Smart Voice can do
Smart Voice is presented as a conversational assistant for entertainment discovery and control of the service. According to T3’s demonstration, it identified Cast Away from a plot description, answered a follow-up question about awards, found a programme’s time and opened a page where it could be added to the Watchlist. Those are examples from the report, not independent performance tests.
T3 says the assistant can answer entertainment questions, find films and programmes, retrieve related information from sources such as Wikipedia, and show an answer without interrupting playback. The report describes guardrails limiting it to entertainment and service control, but does not give details about data retention, processing location or a formal privacy policy for Smart Voice.

When is the update coming, and who can get it?
At the time of T3’s report on 30 September 2026, the update was being trialled by a select group of Sky Glass owners and there was no public sign-up route. T3 reported an expectation that the first software update would arrive “before the end of the year”—a forecast, not a confirmed release date. Its report says Sky Stream is also in scope, but does not set out separate eligibility details for Stream customers.

What existing owners should take from the report
The described changes focus on making content and account functions easier to reach, making Watchlist and recording actions less ambiguous, and adding conversational discovery. The report does not establish that current owners need to buy a new TV, streamer, remote or accessory to receive the update; a hardware purchase is not presented as a requirement.
