If the player does not survive the save, the SingleFile-MV3 FAQ also recommends allowing scripts and suggests a few optional preservation settings. These steps may preserve the page and its player; they do not guarantee that the video file itself is saved or will play offline.
What SingleFile can—and cannot—save
SingleFile is a browser extension that saves a web page as one HTML file. With a video page, it helps to distinguish three results:
- The player remains in the saved page. Its frame or iframe and surrounding page structure are retained.
- The player appears when you open the saved page. The archive retains enough markup, scripts, and resources for the player to render.
- The video itself is stored locally and plays offline. The media stream has been saved as part of the archive or otherwise made available locally.
Settings can help with the first two results, but the official SingleFile materials do not promise the third. A retained player may still depend on the original site, an online video stream, or site-specific playback behavior.
Keep the embedded player in the page
Check SingleFile’s options for frame removal before saving. The help documentation says the “remove frames” option removes all frame and iframe elements. If the player is embedded in an iframe, removing it can remove the player from the saved page.

Leaving frame removal off can increase the saved file’s size or processing time. That is the trade-off: removing frames can reduce file size and save time, but may also remove embedded content you want to preserve.
Try the video-page troubleshooting settings
The following recommendations come from the SingleFile-MV3 FAQ specifically for pages containing videos. Exact labels may differ in other browser editions or releases, so treat them as edition-specific guidance rather than universal settings.

- Allow scripts. In the FAQ’s settings, go to Network > blocked resources and uncheck scripts. This can help when a page’s player or related content depends on scripts.
- Preserve hidden elements if needed. The FAQ suggests optionally unchecking the setting that removes hidden elements. Try this if the player or related page structure is hidden during capture.
- Preserve unused styles if needed. The FAQ also suggests optionally unchecking removal of unused styles. This may retain styling that the saved page needs to render as expected.
- Save the raw page HTML if needed. In HTML content, the FAQ suggests checking save raw page.
These are troubleshooting options, not a guarantee that a particular player will work. Preserving more page content or behavior may change the output and save process; test the settings against the site you need.
When to use deferred-content options
Some pages reveal content after scrolling or waiting. SingleFile’s help describes simulated scrolling to trigger certain sites’ scroll listeners, and loading deferred content in frames before saving. Consider these options if the player or surrounding content appears only after the page has had time to load or after you scroll.

Simulated scrolling can cause unexpected scrolling problems, according to the help. Deferred-content settings address page loading and capture timing; they do not download or guarantee the video stream.
Save and verify a test copy
- Open the target page and adjust the relevant SingleFile settings, starting with frame removal disabled.
- Save a test copy of the page.
- Open the saved HTML file and inspect whether the player is present and whether it behaves as expected.
- If the player is missing, try the SingleFile-MV3 FAQ’s script and optional preservation settings, then save and inspect another test copy.
- If the player appears but the video will not play offline, do not assume the archive contains the video. The saved page may still rely on an online stream or site-specific services.
SingleFile’s help documents an option to open the saved page in a new tab, which can help with checking the result. Reopening the file is a practical verification step, not proof that offline playback will work in every case.
