SimpleLogin lets you give different websites and contacts separate email addresses, then forwards incoming messages to a mailbox you already use. You can reply from an alias, disable an address when it attracts unwanted mail, and keep your main address out of routine exchanges. It adds a useful layer of separation, but it does not make you anonymous to the recipient or prevent every form of tracking.
What SimpleLogin does
An email alias is an address that acts as a forwarding layer. A website or contact sends mail to the alias; SimpleLogin forwards it to your chosen mailbox. You can use a different alias for each service, making it easier to identify where an address was used and cut off mail from one source without changing your main email account.
SimpleLogin supports both incoming mail and replies from aliases. Its documentation describes aliases as permanent unless you delete them, rather than temporary addresses that expire after a short period. The service also offers catch-all domains and directories for creating aliases on the fly.
An alias is not the same as anonymity. The recipient can still identify you through the information you share, account activity, message contents, or other tracking. SimpleLogin is also part of the mail-routing path: the service manages the alias and forwards its messages.

Creating and managing aliases
Choose a random or custom address
SimpleLogin can generate random aliases using random words or UUID-style text. Alternatively, you can choose a custom name. A memorable custom alias can help you recognize which site or contact received it; you can also add a note to record its purpose.
Forward mail to your mailbox
Aliases forward messages to a mailbox you choose. SimpleLogin’s mailbox setup lets you add and verify additional mailboxes, then select which mailbox or mailboxes should receive messages for an alias. The number of mailboxes available depends on your plan.

Turn off an address that is no longer useful
Because aliases are managed individually, you can disable or delete one address without changing the others. This is useful if a site starts sending unwanted mail or an address appears to have been shared beyond its original purpose. Deleting an alias is different from letting a temporary address expire: SimpleLogin says aliases remain available unless you delete them.

When a message arrives through an alias, you can reply from your normal email client. SimpleLogin routes the reply so the sender sees the alias rather than your real mailbox address.
Rank #3
Starting a new conversation with someone who has not emailed the alias first requires a reverse alias for that contact. SimpleLogin lists this capability on paid plans, including SimpleLogin Premium and Proton Pass Plus or higher. The Free plan includes replies from an alias, but not new outbound messages from aliases.

The distinction that matters most for everyday use is the alias and mailbox limit: Free provides 10 aliases and one mailbox, while Premium removes the alias cap and allows unlimited mailboxes. Premium also adds custom domains, catch-all, and the ability to start new messages from aliases.

SimpleLogin’s FAQ says aliases you already created continue receiving and sending mail after a subscription ends. If your account exceeds Free’s limits, you cannot create more aliases; adding a new domain, directory, or mailbox is also restricted. This means a subscription ending does not automatically erase existing aliases, but it can limit further changes and growth.

Account security and trust considerations
SimpleLogin supports TOTP and WebAuthn (FIDO) for account security. A WebAuthn security key is an optional accessory you can register to protect the SimpleLogin account; it is not required to create or use aliases.
Using the service means relying on a third party to manage aliases and route mail to your mailbox. SimpleLogin joined Proton at the beginning of 2022, and its About page identifies Proton AG as the product owner. That ownership is useful context, but it does not change the basic trade-off: aliases reduce how often you give out your primary address, while SimpleLogin remains involved in forwarding messages.
Who should use SimpleLogin?
SimpleLogin is a practical fit if you want separate addresses for sites, newsletters, or contacts and value being able to shut off an alias independently. The Free plan can suit someone who wants to try the workflow with a small number of aliases and a single mailbox. Premium is more relevant if you need more than 10 aliases, multiple mailboxes, your own domain, catch-all, or the ability to initiate messages from aliases.
