Choose the sign-in option the app supports and the account you want to use. Sign in with ChatGPT uses your ChatGPT identity at participating third-party apps; Sign in with Apple uses your Apple Account. In either case, signing in is not the same as granting the app broader access to your data. The main practical differences are what identity details an app receives, how authentication works on your devices, and whether the option is available in that app.
What each sign-in option does
These are third-party identity sign-in methods: they let a participating app or website use an existing account to authenticate you. They do not mean the same thing as using ChatGPT through Apple Intelligence.
- Sign in with ChatGPT: use your ChatGPT account identity at an external app that supports the option. OpenAI describes the identity information released to that app as your name, email address, and profile picture, if present. OpenAI Help Center: Sign in with ChatGPT
- Sign in with Apple: use your Apple Account at a participating app or website. Apple’s documentation describes the flow as requesting your name and email address, with the app’s specific requests shown during sign-in. Apple Human Interface Guidelines: Sign in with Apple

What information is shared—and what is not
Sign in with ChatGPT
For the identity step, OpenAI says the app receives your name, email address, and profile picture if present. That alone does not give the app your ChatGPT conversations, memory, files, tokens, billing information, or other ChatGPT account data. An app may make a separate request for permission to access particular data or perform specific actions; review and approve those requests separately from sign-in. The identity payload is not the same as information OpenAI may process to operate authentication. Depending on the flow, OpenAI says this can include account identifiers, the app and requested permissions, authorization outcome, IP address, inferred location, browser or app and device information, and security signals. This describes processing by the identity provider, not information automatically disclosed to the third-party app.
Sign in with Apple
Apple’s Hide My Email option can give an app a unique random email address that forwards to your personal address, rather than disclosing that personal address directly. The app may still request your name and other information shown in its sign-in flow; check what it asks for before continuing. Apple advises developers to minimize additional data requests. Hide My Email is the key privacy distinction, but it is not a promise that the app learns nothing about you: it receives the information you approve, and the relay address remains an identifier for the account it creates. Neither provider’s sign-in button is a substitute for reviewing an app’s own privacy terms.

Using Sign in with ChatGPT
- At a participating app or website, choose “Sign in with ChatGPT” or “Continue with ChatGPT.”
- Sign in to ChatGPT if prompted, then review the identity details the app will receive.
- Review any additional permission request separately. Approve only the specific access or actions you want to grant.
- Continue to create, link, or access the app’s account.
The partner’s implementation and any organization administrator settings affect whether the option appears. An eligible ChatGPT plan may also be offered as a separate permission for plan usage; it is not required merely to authenticate. OpenAI developer quickstart: authentication

Using Sign in with Apple
On supported Apple devices with a passcode set up, authentication can use Face ID or Touch ID; a passcode or Apple Account password may apply depending on the situation. On a non-Apple device, sign in with your Apple Account credentials and enter a two-factor authentication code. The app must participate in Sign in with Apple for the option to be available. Apple characterizes its flow as “a fast, private way to sign into apps and websites” and emphasizes a consistent experience and fewer passwords to remember. Availability depends on the app
Sign in with Apple is available only where an app or website offers it, though participating services can support it on Apple and non-Apple platforms. Sign in with ChatGPT is rolling out across supported partners; the option may also depend on an organization’s admin settings. Use the same provider when returning
When you sign up with a provider, use that same sign-in option to return to the account. OpenAI specifically advises people who originally used Apple to continue with Apple. If Hide My Email was enabled, the account may be associated with an address ending in @privaterelay.appleid.com; that relay address is not necessarily the personal email you use to contact the service. Trying a different button may take you through a separate account-creation or linking flow rather than returning you to the original account. If you cannot find your existing account, first retry with the provider used at signup, and check whether Apple’s relay address was used.

Which should you choose?
- Choose Sign in with ChatGPT if the app supports it and you prefer using your ChatGPT identity. Treat any request for ChatGPT plan usage or other data permissions as an additional, optional decision.
- Choose Sign in with Apple if the app supports it and you want the option of using Hide My Email to avoid sharing your personal email address directly.
- For an existing account, prioritize continuity: use the same provider you used when that account was created, unless the app explicitly offers a safe account-linking process.
