Choose the Shure MV6 Gen 2 if you want a dynamic mic with Shure’s voice-focused processing and documented phone and tablet support. Choose the Elgato Wave:3 MK.2 if you want a condenser mic built around Elgato’s Wave Link and Wave FX workflow. Neither is established as the universal sound-quality winner: there is no controlled head-to-head test of these current models.
Check the generation before buying. Shure’s current product page identifies the MV6 Gen 2, while Elgato’s current Wave:3 is the MK.2; older Wave:3 MK.1 stock has different specifications.
What separates the MV6 Gen 2 and Wave:3 MK.2?
The core difference is not a guaranteed difference in sound quality. It is the combination of microphone design and workflow: the MV6 Gen 2 is a dynamic, cardioid microphone with Shure’s MOTIV processing, while Elgato describes the Wave:3 MK.2 as a 16 mm cardioid condenser with Wave FX processing and Wave Link software.

Which one should you buy for your setup?
Choose the Shure MV6 Gen 2 for Shure’s voice-processing workflow
The MV6 is the more natural fit if you want Shure’s listed processing controls—such as auto-level, denoising, pop reduction, filtering and EQ—and plan to customize through MOTIV. Shure lists MOTIV Mix support for 64-bit Windows 10 or later and macOS 14 or later. Its mobile apps are listed for iOS 17 or later and Android 14 or later.
Shure says the MV6 connects over USB-C to PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices; depending on the phone or tablet connector, an adapter may be needed. Console support is not assured simply because the mic is USB-C: Shure says it depends on the platform, operating system, game and voice-chat implementation. Check compatibility for the exact console and game before buying. Shure’s compatibility information

Elgato lists Windows 11 or newer or macOS 14.2 or newer, plus USB-C, for its Wave FX Processor/Wave Link system requirements. If you do not want creator software in your recording path, verify that the basic workflow you need works the way you expect before choosing it for those features. The available specifications and reviews do not establish a controlled sound-quality winner between the MV6 Gen 2 and Wave:3 MK.2. Dynamic versus condenser describes different microphone designs; it does not by itself prove that one will reject more room noise or capture more detail in your specific setup. Placement, distance, room acoustics, voice, gain and processing all affect the result.

Reviews offer useful but limited practical context. MusicRadar’s 2026 USB-microphone guide describes the MV6 as straightforward to set up, highlighting Auto-Level and tap-to-mute; its scores are that publication’s editorial judgments, not lab measurements. GamesRadar’s hands-on MK.2 review praised its sound and low-effort setup, but reported that Voice Focus sometimes clipped quick comments or laughter and was only adequate against keyboard or controller noise. Those are one reviewer’s observations, not guaranteed outcomes for every user or room. MusicRadar · GamesRadar
