For most US buyers, no: wait until a Wi-Fi 8 router is confirmed for US sale and independent reviews are available. TP-Link opened preorders for its first announced Wi-Fi 8 router in select markets on September 30, 2026, but the United States was not on the launch list in Tom’s Hardware’s report that day. If you need better Wi-Fi now, compare available Wi-Fi 7 routers with your home’s coverage needs, internet plan, wired ports and devices.

Is a Wi-Fi 8 router available to preorder in the US?

Not according to the latest dated availability report in this article. On September 30, 2026, Tom’s Hardware reported that Archer 8 Ultra preorders were open in the UK, Germany, Australia and other markets, while the US was absent from the launch list. The report said the router was still unavailable stateside at that time. Availability can change, so check current US retail listings before deciding: Tom’s Hardware’s September 30, 2026 report.

TP-Link announced the Archer 8 Ultra BN19000, also identified as Archer BN800, and the Deco 8 Ultra BN22000, also identified as Deco BN85, on September 1, 2026. The company said Archer preorders would begin in select regions September 30. Its release listed planned Deco 8 mesh availability in Q1 2027 and Roam 8 travel router, range extenders and adapters in Q2 2027. TP-Link cautions that timing, specifications and regions may change. These are announced plans, not confirmed US retail dates. See TP-Link’s announcement.

When will Wi-Fi 8 routers be available in the US?

There is no confirmed US retail date established in the available announcements. Wi-Fi 8 is the consumer name associated with IEEE P802.11bn, also called Ultra High Reliability. The IEEE 802.11 Working Group’s project timeline lists the standard at draft D2.00 and records a 77% result dated September 2, 2026. Its predicted milestones extend through May 2028; they are planning estimates that can move. The 77% figure is a standards-process result, not a measure of router performance. Check the IEEE 802.11 project timeline.

Qualcomm says final IEEE approval is expected in 2028 and Wi-Fi Alliance certification is currently projected for January 2028. Those are forecasts, not promises of certification on that date or of a US router launch. Early products can be announced or sold regionally while standardization and certification continue. Qualcomm’s overview is at Qualcomm’s Wi-Fi 8 overview.

What the announced Archer 8 Ultra does—and what its numbers mean

TP-Link describes the Archer 8 Ultra as a tri-band router rated for up to 19 Gbps of aggregate wireless speed and 10 Gbps wired connectivity. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of typical home performance. The aggregate wireless figure is not the speed a single device or internet connection should be expected to reach.

TP-Link says its StabilityEngine and features including Enhanced Long Range, Distributed Resource Units, Non-Primary Channel Access, Unequal Modulation, and new modulation and coding schemes are intended to improve edge coverage, congestion handling and consistency under interference. The company also claims up to 33% more real-world throughput and 24% more consistent throughput in high interference, as reported by Tom’s Hardware. That performance comparison remains a company claim in the reviewed coverage, not independent testing. No independent hands-on test of the Archer 8 Ultra is established here.

Should you buy Wi-Fi 7 now or wait for Wi-Fi 8?

Base the decision on a specific problem, not the generation number alone. Wi-Fi 8’s stated emphasis is reliability and consistency in challenging conditions; that does not guarantee a noticeable improvement in every home. Before buying, work through these checks:

  • 𝐌𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 - Up to 2,600 sq. ft. coverage for up to 120 devices at a time. 6 optimally positioned antennas and Beamforming technology focus Wi-Fi signals toward hard-to-cover areas for stronger coverage-—ideal for those seeking the best WiFi router for large homes.
  • 𝟏𝟎 𝐆𝐛𝐩𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢-𝐆𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 - Features 1x 10 Gbps WAN/LAN port, 1x 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port, and 3x 2.5 Gbps LAN ports. Integrate with a multi-gig modem for fast, wired gig+ internet.

  • Identify the problem. Is the issue weak coverage in a particular room, congestion from many devices, or latency during demanding use? If your current network works well, there may be no practical reason to replace it.
  • Check client devices. Qualcomm says Wi-Fi 8 is intended to be backward compatible with Wi-Fi 7 and earlier generations. Older devices may connect, but compatibility alone does not establish that they will perform better with a Wi-Fi 8 router. Verify device support, router firmware and real performance evidence.
  • Match the wired connection. Compare the router’s WAN and LAN ports with your internet service and wired equipment. A high headline wireless rate does not increase the speed of an internet plan or a wired link that is the bottleneck.
  • Confirm local terms. Before ordering, verify US availability, price, return policy and support coverage for the exact model. Regional preorder availability does not establish that the product is sold or supported in the US.
  • Wait for comparable reviews. Look for independent measurements of coverage, stability and latency under conditions relevant to your home. Without those results, claims about superiority over Wi-Fi 7 remain unproven.

If you need a coverage or reliability fix now, compare currently sold Wi-Fi 7 routers against your home layout, internet tier, wired needs and devices. The available sources do not establish a specific Wi-Fi 7 model or current price as the right choice for every buyer.
