If Basic, Grow, or Advanced already covers your workflows, Plus may not justify its much higher subscription cost. As of October 4, 2026, Shopify’s US pricing lists standard plans at $39–$399 per month with monthly billing, while Plus starts at $2,300 per month on a three-year term or $2,500 per month on a one-year term.
The practical choice is not simply “small store or large store.” It is whether the added controls and capacity solve a concrete operational problem—and whether they are worth the full cost for your contract, payment setup, apps, and implementation needs.
Shopify vs. Shopify Plus at a glance
The figures below are from Shopify’s US pricing pages, accessed October 4, 2026. Standard-plan yearly amounts are monthly equivalents billed yearly; Plus pricing is quoted by contract term, not as a yearly-billing equivalent. Prices and feature availability can change.
| Plan | US subscription price | Selected limits and capabilities | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $39/month with monthly billing; $29/month equivalent billed yearly | Up to 10 inventory locations; no additional staff accounts; limited checkout customization; up to three B2B catalogs | Stores that can operate within the core storefront and staffing features |
| Grow | $105/month with monthly billing; $79/month equivalent billed yearly | Up to five staff accounts and 10 inventory locations; limited checkout customization; up to three B2B catalogs | Stores that need more staff access than Basic provides |
| Advanced | $399/month with monthly billing; $299/month equivalent billed yearly | Up to 15 staff accounts and 10 inventory locations; up to 2x limits on select APIs; limited checkout customization; up to three B2B catalogs | Stores that need more staff capacity or select API headroom but not Plus-specific controls |
| Plus | Starts at $2,300/month on a three-year term or $2,500/month on a one-year term | Unlimited staff accounts; up to 200 inventory locations; up to 10x limits on select APIs; full checkout customization; unlimited B2B catalogs | Businesses with clear requirements for Plus-specific features or higher operational capacity |

What Shopify Plus adds—and when it matters
More control over checkout
Shopify’s plan comparison describes checkout customization as limited on Basic, Grow, and Advanced, and full on Plus. Shopify says Plus merchants can edit checkout through the editor and apps or develop custom apps. This matters when a specific checkout design, flow, or operational requirement cannot be handled within the standard plans. Customization alone does not establish that conversion or revenue will improve.
Higher limits on select APIs
The US plan matrix lists standard API limits on Basic and Grow, up to 2x limits on select APIs on Advanced, and up to 10x limits on select APIs on Plus. The relevant limit depends on the API and the integration’s needs, so the multiplier should not be read as a blanket increase in speed or capacity across every connection.
More B2B catalog and pricing options
B2B is not exclusively a Plus feature. Shopify’s current plan comparison lists up to three catalogs on Basic, Grow, and Advanced, and unlimited catalogs on Plus. In an April 2, 2026 changelog, Shopify said key B2B features had become available on non-Plus plans while identifying unlimited catalogs, customer-specific pricing, direct catalog assignment to companies and locations, partial payments, and deposits as Plus-exclusive at that time. Merchants considering a B2B workflow should distinguish the features they need from the general ability to sell B2B, and confirm current availability.

More staff and inventory-location capacity
The plan matrix lists unlimited staff accounts and up to 200 inventory locations for Plus. Basic, Grow, and Advanced each list up to 10 inventory locations; their staff-account limits are zero additional accounts on Basic, five on Grow, and 15 on Advanced. These differences matter when account access or inventory operations have reached a plan limit—not simply because a business expects to grow.
Organization management and expansion stores
Shopify’s Plus pricing FAQ says a Plus contract includes a main store and nine expansion stores, with one brand per contract. Additional stores may cost $300 USD per month each or be priced through revenue share. A separate contract is required for each brand under a company. The contract’s store structure and terms matter if you operate multiple brands or storefronts.
Launch and peak-event workflows
Shopify describes Launchpad for scheduling promotions, product releases, and theme updates, alongside bot protection and higher API limits. These capabilities may be relevant for planned launches or flash sales. They are not a guarantee against every bot or of a particular sales result.

How much does Shopify Plus cost?
On Shopify’s US pricing pages accessed October 4, 2026, standard plans cost $39, $105, or $399 per month with monthly billing. Their listed yearly-billing equivalents are $29, $79, and $299 per month, respectively. Plus starts at $2,300 per month with a three-year term or $2,500 per month with a one-year term.
The subscription is only one part of the comparison. Shopify says more complex, higher-volume businesses may move to a variable platform fee based on revenue and business model. Plus payment rates depend on country, and Shopify recommends contacting sales for current rates. Payment method, geography, sales volume, contract terms, third-party processors, and transaction fees can all affect the total. The official pages do not establish a universal sales-volume threshold at which Plus becomes cheaper overall.
For a useful estimate, include these cost categories:
- Plan subscription at the actual billing term and in the relevant country
- Payment processing and any applicable third-party transaction fees
- Apps and custom development needed for the workflow
- Migration and implementation work
- Any expansion-store charges or revenue-share terms that apply to your contract

Which plan should you choose?
Choose Basic when
- The core storefront, sales, and inventory tools cover your needs.
- You do not need additional staff accounts under the plan’s listed allowance.
- Up to three B2B catalogs and limited checkout customization are sufficient for your operation.
Choose Grow when
- You need more staff access than Basic provides, within Grow’s limit of five staff accounts.
- The standard feature set and up to 10 inventory locations meet your operating requirements.
Choose Advanced when
- You need up to 15 staff accounts and still fit within the standard plans’ 10-location allowance.
- Up to 2x limits on select APIs address a specific integration requirement.
- Limited checkout customization and up to three B2B catalogs are enough.
Evaluate Plus when
- A required checkout change cannot be achieved with the standard plans’ limited customization.
- A named integration needs more capacity on a select API than Advanced provides.
- Your B2B operation needs unlimited catalogs or one of the Plus-exclusive features identified by Shopify in April 2026.
- Your staff, inventory locations, or store structure exceeds the standard-plan limits.
- Scheduled launches or peak-event workflows make Launchpad and the related Plus capabilities useful.
A high revenue target by itself is not a reason to upgrade. The case for Plus is strongest when you can connect a specific limit or capability to a real workflow and account for the contract and operating costs.

How to make the decision with your own store’s numbers
- Write down hard requirements. Specify the checkout changes, API calls, staff accounts, inventory locations, B2B catalog and pricing needs, stores and brands, and launch workflows your operation actually requires.
- Check which standard plan meets them. If Basic, Grow, or Advanced covers the requirements, Plus needs a separate, concrete value proposition; anticipated growth alone does not establish one.
- Build a monthly total-cost estimate. Use the relevant country, billing term, plan or contract quote, payment setup, third-party fees, apps, custom work, migration, and any extra-store charges. Do not rely on a generic revenue break-even point.
- Validate a workflow before committing. Shopify’s Help Center recommends using a free trial to learn how features fit the business and says plans can be upgraded. You can also ask Shopify for a store-specific quote when Plus terms or fees are part of the decision.

Plan for migration and implementation
Moving to Plus is not just a subscription change if the store depends on custom checkout work, integrations, or a complex store structure. Shopify says merchants are responsible for migration and notes that paid services may be useful for custom needs. Shopify’s Plus pricing FAQ states: “Migration is your responsibility, but a Shopify Plus representative can outline potential costs and resources needed.”
Before budgeting, identify what must move or be rebuilt, who will do the work, and whether your requirements need custom development. Shopify’s statement does not mean every migration requires paid help; the work depends on the store and its setup.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Shopify Plus worth it for a small business?
It can be, if the business needs a Plus-specific feature or has outgrown a relevant standard-plan limit. If the standard storefront, checkout, API, B2B, staff, location, and store allowances meet its requirements, the higher Plus subscription may not be justified.

Do you need Shopify Plus to sell B2B?
No. Shopify’s April 2, 2026 changelog says key B2B features became available on non-Plus plans. Shopify’s plan matrix lists up to three catalogs on standard plans and unlimited catalogs on Plus; it identified several advanced catalog, pricing, assignment, payment, and deposit capabilities as Plus-exclusive at that time.
Does Shopify Plus include multiple stores?
Shopify’s Plus pricing FAQ says a contract includes the main store and nine expansion stores, with one brand per contract. Additional stores may cost $300 USD per month each or be priced through revenue share, and each brand under a company requires a separate contract. Confirm the terms for your specific contract.
Is there a revenue level where Shopify Plus always pays for itself?
No universal break-even threshold is established by Shopify’s reviewed pricing pages. The result depends on contract terms, geography, payment and third-party fees, volume, apps, custom work, and store structure.
Can you upgrade a Shopify plan later?
Shopify’s Help Center says plans can be upgraded and recommends using a free trial to understand how features fit the business. The available plan and terms should be checked for the merchant’s country and account.
