Shaquille Grant was arrested and named in reports about a luxury-item theft in Miramar, Florida, but police later acknowledged that the notice tied to the arrest carried the wrong last name. Authorities dropped the case against Grant and released him. WSVN reported on October 2, 2026, that Shaquille Palmer was later taken into custody in connection with the investigation; that arrest report is not a finding of guilt.
What happened to Shaquille Grant?
Initial reporting identified Grant, 31, as a suspect arrested on September 30, 2026, and charged with first-degree grand theft. On October 1, Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss acknowledged that officials had the correct first name but the wrong last name on a “Not in custody” notice. WSVN reported that the notice carried Grant’s name rather than the intended person’s.
The Broward State Attorney’s Office coordinated with the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Miramar Police to drop the case against Grant and expedite his release, according to WSVN. Moss said the department was looking back at how the error occurred. The reporting does not establish the full administrative or investigative chain that put Grant’s name on the notice.

Local10 said a Miramar police report listed five Hermès handbags and one Chanel water bottle, with a combined reported value of $271,938.60. That figure is the amount attributed to the items in the police report as recounted by Local10; it is not evidence that Grant took them.

Local10 reported that the woman noticed the six items missing before a business trip on August 3, 2026. Police responded to a theft report on August 17. The reviewed coverage does not establish that the items were recovered.
Who was taken into custody after Grant’s case was dropped?
In an October 2 follow-up, WSVN reported that Shaquille Palmer was taken into custody late Friday on felony grand theft charges connected to the investigation. The report said authorities believed Palmer was connected to the case. An arrest and charge are allegations, not proof of guilt, and the reviewed reporting does not give the final outcome of that charge.

What remains unresolved?
- How Grant’s name got onto the notice: Moss said police were looking back at the mistake; the reviewed reports do not explain how it entered the notice.
- The investigation’s outcome: WSVN’s October 2 report said the items had not been accounted for, according to the victim, and that the investigation continued.
- Palmer’s case: The follow-up reports an arrest and charges, but not a final court disposition.
